Please help a noob

Hey guys Im sorry as I know im gonna get flamed. But I need a quick question from the evo gods. Ive tried searching but its very hard to get a straight answer. I just purchased a Stock 2003 evo 8. All I want to do is put a HKS catback Exhaust and an injen Intake on it. Does the car need to be tuned for this mods? Will it caus engine damage? I know a tune will net me the most power but I will tune it next year when I add the Weapon R test pipe. Please dont flame me, i tried searching but almost everything is related to an Evo X. Those are the only mods I plan on the car. Thanks for you help guys !

While a cat back exhaust looks good at the rear bumper that's about all its doing. Most of the restriction that would provide a few more hp are between the engine and the cat.

Honesty power isn't my goal with this car. There's so many modded evos now it's almost impossible to find a stock one. I was furtiante to find a 1 owner stock evo. I don't plan on going any farther than intake catback test pipe and a tune. That's as basic as it can get.

I'd have kept the S2k and supercharged it lol..

but honestly a stock 8 is a pretty rare find. I'd keep it stock for now and if you think you'll and up keeping it for a while do all the bolt ons and tune at once

That's my plan. All my cars need an exhaust though. So Hks cat back immediately. Then next yr I'm gona get an Injen intake and a weapon r test pipe. Tune it and be done. Compared to all the other evos that's still a stock car to me lol.

Why not just do a full turbo back? Catbacks are pretty much just cosmetic on most turbo cars. Getting a tune is definitely the way to go though. Wake the car up a bit.

I know it's the right way to go. But I guess my answer is I want to keep the car as stock as possible with as minimal mods .

Totally fair. Can always reverse something like an exhaust or an intake fairly easily. Obviously a lot easier when it's a catback.

I said exactly that when I first bought my Evo. Almost 2 years later I'm trying to figure out the best way to get extract 650 hp from it.

You can do turbo, injectors, cams, fuel pump and pipe and it will still look stock. So save your money forget the intake and start with a good quality turbo back and a tune, sit on that for a while then mod with an end game in mind, if you have access to e85 you would be silly not to take advantage of it with min mods youll have something that kicks serious butt and is still reliable

I ran with an intake and catback with no tune for about a year and a half, no issues. A tune would really benefit you though.
