Evo v GTO
That look better than an evo? Are you on crack? I can understand if you comparing the c6 corvette to an evo, but come on now, that crap looks like a sunfire to me. Seriously, that thing look "OK". If you think the EVO is ugly, then check it out with the Varis CF kits or the Apexi/Sparco EVO. Our EVOs can look good, just the question of having good taste and doing the right thing to make her look good. Also money is another factor.
Who said GTO looks better than an Evo? Cause Evo is a bad *** looking car around otherwise, I might have bought a STI.
More I look at my Evo, more I like the way it looks. GTO is a decent American design compare to most U.S. cars but bit off from Euro and Japan.

I went to see a GTO at a dealership, I took about 10 min to go over the car and inspect it. Keep in mind I own an EVO and I had 4 fbodies (camaro/firebird) before.
-Overall the car looks simple, bland and plain
-brakes look small, wheels look cheap, but paint quality
is good
-stepping inside, the interior is nice, good leather and aluminum
trim, clear and visible dials
-shifter is rubbery and flimsy
-pedals feel mushy
-steering wheel looks cheap
-interior room is great for driver/passenger, rear two seats
have barely any room
-trunk is a joke, can't hold anything normal in there
-this is a big car and it's damn heavy
Personally the feeling I got when I went back into my EVO was like trying a pair of 40 size jeans instead of 34 which is my size and niice and snug.
So basically the GTO feels big, loosy goosy, flimsy and rubbery like a wet noodle. The EVO feels like an instrument of precision, with excellent ergonomics, driver position and feel.. everything fits into place like a glove.
In my book, there's no comparison.

Sorry I meant to say it was like trying 34 size instead of 40 size.

Does that not look sexy to you guys?
It handles way better than any Camaro or Firebird or Puss-tang, that's for sure.

I recently drove the GTO 7 times (6 manuals, 1 auto) at the "Auto Show in Motion" at Hollywood Park, CA. (horse race track). This event is put on by GM in a very large mall size parking lot. This is a driving event utilizing numerous GM cars, Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Toyota, Hummer H2, Acura, Lexus, Lincoln, etc. as many times as you want. The message is to prove that GM vehicles are as good as the rest. I also drove the Z06 with total abandon on a small road course. The Z06 and Hummer were the only vehicles that a GM rep was present in the vehicle during the test drives. I also drove the GTO very hard and was greatly impressed. I saw one individual actually spin the GTO during his test so that should give an indication that these were "no holds barred do what you like" sort of test drive. No, it won't handle like an EVO and I have test driven the EVO twice now. What it does is handle very nicely, great acceleration, nice ride mixed with the feeling that this is a very well put together vehicle that would be great for long distance driving/commuting. Great seats, great V8 noise. Variable power steering with great on center feel and nicely weighted. Not as quick steering as an EVO, of course. What is? 29 MPG on the highway with the 6 speed. Not everyone is in a stop light grand prix in the inner city.
Whoever said that the backseat is small never sat there. It is a pain to get in the back but quite spacious and comfortable once there. Two bucket seats.
That big lump in the back of the trunk is the gas tank. It used to be behind the rear bumper (down low) and was moved for the US market and litigation/fire purposes. It will hold two golf bags and not much else.
After driving 32 vehicles in a 5 hour period, you definitely get an idea of what you like and what you don't. Around the block with the salesman doesn't mean much anymore. Did it ever?
I was very impressed with the GTO and will be purchasing the 400 HP "Judge" version in the latter part of 2004.

No offense but no matter how nice you think the GTO is.. I wouldn't pick it over those EVO bad boys comin to town..
IMO..
Each car--EVO & GTO has it's place in the market. I doubt you will see much cross over between owners of a GTO to an EVO or vice versa. These cars have a very different demographic & appeal.
Props to GM for bringing this car across the pond. The look of them doesn't blow me away, but it is the nicest looking GM car that you can buy. Maybe the best looking US domestic car currently offered. It looks much better than the last model Fireboard and blows away the Gran Prix and sunfire.
I like my EVO and don't see getting rid of it any time soon.

what makes it different from a Camaro? an independent rear? is that it? the tuners probably don't have to catch up on anything since its using the old 5.7. probably a great GT car but not a great value considering its expensive and heavy.
The GTO is boring. It's the same old GM story. What's wrong with this picture? Someone at GM went Hummmm, let's introduce a "BRAND NEW" rear drive, LS1 powered, 6 speed, 2 door with decent front seat accomodations, limited rear seats, 4 wheel discs, 17" wheels/tires and a high performance image that goes back to the 60's/70's. For 2005, they will add a sunroof as option, in 2006 RamAir IV or something like that. After enough modifications, they'll have a car on par with the 2002 TransAm WS-6 that they decided to DISCONTINUE due to lack of interest. GM is a marketing MONSTER that purposely sand bags every early model so they can tack something on next years' model and create a more desireable vehicle. It's just the same old GM crap though: overpriced, poor quality, electrical problems no one can fix, etc... you just can not buty a GM vehicle! They're simply evil. With the Evo, you get the absolute BEST car Mitsubishi can produce. If they can think of it, it's on the car. GTO = GrandPrix = Dodge Stratus R/T = Caviler. Has anyone else noticed the "re-invent" game GM plays? I'm done.
