Evo v GTO

There was a new Pontiac GTO at a track day I attended last weekend. It was about as fast in a straight line but the Evo ate it up on cornering & braking. We were both on street tires.

i think that car is really underrated. it's not getting the respect it deserves from a lot of people. i bet in a little while, once some tuners get ahold of parts, the gto is gonna surprise a lot of people. i think it has more potential than people realize

too bad the GTO is 3700lbs+ I probably would have bought one if they had gotten it down into the 3100-3200 range.

Yeah, that car has some serious potential. Put a 150 shot in the car and it will tear up most evos in a straight line. It's the LS1 engine like the camaros and such used to have. It's a serious motor, no doubt. But no matter what, it's a big car with a lot of power and body roll, it will likely never touch our evos for handling. Plus, IMO, our looks WAY better. ;-)

Don't forget who makes it. I went away from GM along time ago and can find no reason to go back. they have screwed me too many times.

Don't forget though that the GTO starts it life as a Pontiac but is tuned by Holden. I liken that car to something like an M5 or a Caddy CTS-V. Not necessarily better or worse, just different from the Evo.

Actually, the GTO started life as a Holden and was tuned and modified to meet US regulations by Pontiac.

They look like bloated Grand Prix's! UGLY IMO
Plus the performance isn't all that spectacular... It's heavy, and rides like a old school caddy..oh w/ an LS1. Great motor.. wrong platform.

Actually, I thought it looked terrific. It was solid black and very elegant & smooth, unlike regular Pontiacs, with their bulges, creases & body cladding. I agree its reliability is suspect. Holdens have not faired well historically in that department, so we'll have to see.

Not to give away my age but when I was in college I used to drive the original GTO's to out of state buyers for the local dealer. That was cool & I got paid for doing it. As I recall, the 0-60 was about 6.9 seconds, slow by today's standards, muscle car myths notwithstanding.

i wish pontiac, dodge, ford could still make the original muscle cars, and i bet everyone would still buy it...i mean they are classics

like toyota why did they discontinue the supra?? they know it well that they could still be selling it like hotcakes..
