So I got a approved to buy a evo 9 the dealer says it runs great and has no leaks they want 16k for it and it has 159000 miles...will this car serve me well as a daily if I don't beat on it don't look like it has a lot of mods either it has hard pipe kit and exhaust and k&n filter
I would take it for a PPI, of course the dealer will say it is great and has no leaks. Have a thorough inspection performed, including compression test and leak down test. I would find a local shop in the area familiar with the platform and reach out to them.
I took mine to another local dealer and had them put it up on the rack. I got the price dropped due to a few things we found, once I got a good luck at the car. I was told that since I'm in CA, anything we found has to be disclosed to potential buyers.. so I kinda had them right where I wanted them LOL.
They also said the car was "perfect, no flaws".

Those oil type filters let in a lot of dirt and need to be changed extremely frequently and maintained extremely well. If the car is at all neglected it's probably on it's way due for a rebuild

Actually the oil does really good job of keeping out dirt. However, they are not usually suggested for MAF cars because the oil can contaminate the sensor. Assuming it's not a dry-type K&N, that is.
So I ended up buying the car it's was super clean and it didn't have any tranny grinds
I drove it from Tennessee to Orlando fl 9 hours with no issues over all I'm pretty happy with the purchase and the price I paid for it. The car is almost stock which I also liked except a hard pipe and aluminum eBay radiator lol....here are some pics
i wouldn't call that almost stock. intercooler pipes, filter, exhaust, wheels, bov, radiator, strut bar, carbon trim things on the rear, radiator plate,
get that BOV changed out for something that doesn't vent, you want to recirculate that air. and get the car tuned

But in that scenario, you'd probably just have to clean the MAF sensor more often, right?

Not an acceptable scenario, imo, You really don't want to deal with that can of worms. Our cars run horrible when the MAF isn't right. In my experience, they are kinda sensitive and don't like being messed with.
I'm not saying it's acceptable, I'm just saying that would be one of the extra things you'll have to do.
I just thought of it because I saw pics of people's MAFs when they were cleaning them out (and most people have aftermarket intakes/filters), though when I opened up mine with 100k miles, it still looked brand new, though I have stock everything, so that's why.

I just mean that there are a ton of dry filters out there, so why use one that messes up the MAF?
Not worth the trouble, IMO.
