I recently bought a set of camshaft caps. The seller shipped the caps and the bolts together in a plastic bag. I didn't think any of the camshaft caps would be undamaged due to his shipping method but only one camshaft cap has a deep scratch that I can feel with my fingernail.
Looking for Ideas and Advice for a way to repair this.
Thats a shame. Someone not knowing about mechanics damaged a surface that could have been protected by a simple piece of blue tape & tie wrapping them together
Hope that damage can be removed w/out an issue. Maybe a replacement is in order
You can not swap caps. They are bolted in place and line bored when originally manufactured. They match your head. Your cap is fine. A light clean with 600 grit or finer and that little nick will be fine.
I wasn't aware you could swap cam caps between engines.

Don
Sorry, I should have specified earlier. I picked up an Evo IX cylinder head. The camshaft caps were removed and the seller told me he lost them.
I bought a different set of camshaft caps to replace the ones that were lost.
I originally planned to line hone the cylinder head with these new cam caps if that is possible. I forgot that a machine shop would have to re-hone the holes anyway so the scratch wouldn't matter. I guess I was mad at the condition I received the caps which led me to post about this issue.
