what could this be?? :banghead:

Hello everyone,
I am having an issue with some stupid oil leak that i cant figure out where its coming from.
little history blew my 2.0 and went with a 2.4. everything i got for the car is brand new.
the oil leak seems to be coming from the oil pump sprocket area

what i have done so far with out any improvement and the oil leak is still there,
1: i have replaced the oil pump seal 3 times with new OEM seal. no go

2: i have taken all the bolts that attach anything to the block except the water pump bolts on the timing belt side and put threat sealer and RTV on. no go

3: i have put a dye in the oil to see where the oil is coming from again it apears to be coming from the oil pump side.

4: i have taken the castle nut out changed the o-ring and applied light RTV to the edges to keep it from leaking. no go

5: i have changed the oil pump sprocket as well. no go

is there a certain way we need to install seals or even the oil pump sprocket?

by the way the front case is brand new since i did a new built. I really dont know what to do anymore. can someone please help me out so that i can figure out whats going on. i really cant afford taking it to a shop right now due to the new built. here are some pictures to show you where the oil gathers and drips. i just want to thank everybody in advance. i hope someone can point something out that im missing.

Front main seal goes like this

If it is not the front main, or the crank with a burr or scratch that desroys the seal. Then I would believe it is leaking, then I believe your timing belt tensioner bolts are not tightened to spec. Oil runs right behind the bolt holes for the tensioner.

I had relatively the same issue of not knowing where oil is coming from..

so I got under the car.
Cleaned the area with the freshest oil.. observed the place n saw oil coming again.. turned out to be a pin sized hole on my turbo oil return pipe..

covered it with jb weld and never had a problem with it. Looking to replace it soon..

maybe it sounds stupid but check the source of the leak and see if there is any super tiny hole..

I think I might know what the issue is but I haven't really looked into it yet. There is a tiny hole in the back of the oil pump seal that drains the extra oil back into the oil pan. I think I might have applied too much RTV to seal the oil pan and I might have maybe blocked that hole from the oil pan side. I haven't taken the oil pan off yet but once I do I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the replays by the way

did you also do the middle bolt on the passenger motor mount bracket? that one goes into the block where there's an oil galley and needs RTV or it will leak oil onto and down the front case.

What's up guys. Just want to update my thread. So I finally fixed my oil leak. There was couple problems Tht was causing my leak. 1: the oring for the castle nut had a small hole in it which caused it to leak .2: behind the oil pump sprocket seal there is a little hole that drains the oil behind the oil pump seal back into the oil pan. There was a lot of RTV in that area which was blocking the drain hole from inside the pan and causing the oil to back up and leak through the actual seal. Now I have 150 miles on the fix and no oil leaks yet. "Knock on wood". Hope this will help members who have oil leak problems. Cheers
