Speeding in NY

Not sure if this would be a place to ask, but I received a speeding ticket just today in Queens for speeding. I did 51mph over a 25mph zone. I received an 1180d violation code. My friend says that my license could possibly automatically be suspended for doing double the speed limit. I was wondering if there are any officers or lawyers here that could tell me if this is true or not?

Thanks in advanced for helping me out here!

At 11 points the NY DMV will suspend your NY license or NY driving privileges (if you live out of state).

Holy crap that is harsh

Get a lawyer. What the lawyer is for is to negotiate the infraction to something slightly less so you can still drive.

That sucks man but I don't think they will take your license if it's clean and has zero points.

I got hit with doing 85 in a 50 on the belt parkway and it ran me $450 driver assessment fee(complete BS), $200 court fee, and 8 points on my license.

Get an attorney. Your license will be suspended even if you currently have 0 points. Maybe the attorney could spot something wrong on the ticket. If not then the best case scenario is the attorney will plea it down to something else for less points but a higher fine.

Get an attorney that works at that Court House or knows the people there well. This is very important!

Also important, the cleaner your record is the more and or the better your chances the lawyer can “negotiate” the penalty down. The better he/she knows the judge or city/state prosecutor the better he/she can tell them on the side "he/she is a good kid, works, goes to school, supports parents, no tickets in X years etc...” and convince them agree to a less harsher penalty or crime. But dont expect for a big speeding ticket to get negotiated down to almost nothing. You may need to go to traffic school/online course and pay larger court/ticket fees . But thats way better than suspended license.

To a certain extent its like a business of making money. Sure they have to be ethical , punish people for their crimes but at the same time they can sometimes show a little lenience. Imagine if there were no more crime ? We would need less Judges, lawyers , city will get less money from fines etc.. Ironically the city wants you to break certain laws.

This is just my opinion from the little I’ve seen happen. Good luck.

76 in a 25 may not be one of them

Agreed . They may want us to speed and get a ticket but not something that drastic over the limit or at a school zone . Probably if I had to guess somewhere in the zone of 5-10 mph over. Other things I can only guess at might be no front plates for states that require them , incomplete stop at stop sign (tires still rolling 1 mph instead of full 3 second stop and then go) etc...

Again the above is just my assumption not necessarily a complete fact. But one thing for sure is they want our $ .
