time to change tone of my 8mr - opinions please
Hey guys,
so i currently have custom 3" exhaust with x3e 3 inch stainless steel twin dump (made from 2.2mm thick seamless i believe) from previous owner.
basically looking for a different one, something a little louder but still sounds good...would you guys say the way to go here is to just change the catback?
i am considering the tomei ti catback, however would like to know if its really worth the money (looking at around $1600 AUD-australia) should i expect anything different performance wise?
i have noticed the tomei catback is the same price as the full invidia turboback...
thanks in advance guys!
edit: http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/tom...tsubishi-evo-7 - tomei im looking at, seems to be the cheapest i can find
http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/pro...-7-9-ct9a.html - full invidia turboback
http://www.invidia-exhausts.com.au/i...-titanium-tip/ - invidia catback, which seems to be cheapest option....

I purchased the Tomei Ti after watching this video (filmed in the motor trend/hot garage in California) I wanted something that sounded deep and was lightweight.
When I installed it on my stock evo 9 ( downpipe, 02 housing, test pipe and catback ) I picked up 50 whp/ 50 wtq on a dynojet on the same stock tune in the same week. It also lost close to 50 lbs.
I later added more power and it continues to sound great and it performs well.
It did get a bit louder on the built engine compared to stock.
HKS also makles a good sounded exhaust

with the setup of my current exhaust that i have put in post, would you say just changing catback would be sweet and stll give me some gains? or....would you recommend going with the full turboback... also would you say the tomei is really worth the extra money over the invidia?
if just changed to a tomei cat, woul it be worth doing a tune after that even for a cat? im also doing a hotside outlet for my car shortly as well.

Exhaust gas is hot and high pressure near the turbo but as it passes down the exhaust it cools and pressure drops. The point of oversize exhaust is to reduce back pressure. Performance wise, beyond the cat, it doesn't much matter. A Mitsubishi factory performance setup I saw stayed with OEM exhaust after the cat.

The performance gain is in the piping before the cat or in the cat itself. Do any change to the rest of the piping if desired for weight savings or sound.
