Hey guys, I have tried to do 2 step on my evo without launching. Today I found out that the launch map is disabled. So I’m thinking to enable it to see if there’s any difference.
Before that I’m going to attach fuel and ignition maps from the global launch map, can you guys have a look at them since I’m not quite savvy reading these maps(I’m in progress of learning and understanding tuning, just starting reading Merlin’s tuning guide). Are they normal and safe maps? And what can I do to create the pops and flames?I read up other threads I have to retard timing and add fuel but I’m clueless on which column or map to edit or how to edit them. Thanks in advance any help I’d really appreciate it!
Let me know if there’s any other info that’s needed.
You'll need to edit the RPM row that you are setting your launch (stationary) rev limit.
Then blend it in with your map.
Say it's 5000 rpm, set that row to -10 or so, and give it a shot.
You can also richen up the map in that area to pop more flames so to speak.
-20 and a 10 afr sounds crazy, but keep in mind too much negative timing can cause knock and the ecu will pull timing when you take off causing a slow launch or stall.

Thank you for the input good sir! I haven’t really gotten around it til today and as an update I did enabled the launch map that was already setup in there as I attached on my OP and tried to 2step it and it did the 2step a little more aggressive with louder bangs and no flames yet. Then I tried to hold the 2step a little longer and there was a quick blue flame at the end of it and that’s all.
With that being said and done, I edited my launch maps based on your input, all I did I highlighted from 4500-5500(rev limiter set at 5656) and edited them down 5x ( I know I didn’t make the whole row the same value). I just thought I have to smoothen them out, unless if it’s necessary to have the whole row the same value. Here is what I edited and I haven’t flash it back to the car yet:
Getting closer, but the quick and easy way is to do the whole row at desired timing. Your load will vary on launch, so getting the cells correct is paramount.
This is what I would do.
Set stationary rev limit to 5500.
Set ENTIRE ROW to -15 (you may need to adjust timing limits for this) and blend.
So like this
5250 -10 -10 -10 -10 -10 -...
5500 -15 -15 -15 -15 -15 .....
6000 -10 -10 -10 -10 ....
The map from 500-5000 and 6500+ should be your stock timing map.
I don't have access to my laptop to shoot you a photo. I hope this makes sense.

Awesome, I was kinda afraid to go with it since I’ve never mess with the tables, but I’m learning still. I will try to edit it some more tonight when I get home.
So I did edit the maps a little more before I read your comment and reflashed it back to the car and tried it. Btw I enabled the CEL flash on knock, so when I try to 2step it it was flashing quick assuming high knock. Is it normal to have low/high knock on 2step? Or do I need to add more fuel to compensate the timing?
also I should’ve logged it when I try it, but I was in the parking lot at work. I’ll do it on the next one and watch those numbers!

Aggressive launch control will induce knock lights. if you want to actually use it to race, you would find the happy medium.
Adding fuel can help mitigate it if you really want.

I’m kinda worry of blowing up the motor.
But I’ll work on it some more and post up the maps and result here and probably with a video as well. Thanks for the help so far!
