Aem Serial connection to usb.

Ok so I have a aem serial connection in my glove box. None of my laptops have this connection anymore. So that being said I have tactrix and wanna log my car! Can I wire a usb to the serial connection or get an adapter? Id rather just wire up a usb if I knew what wire went where rather then having another connection. Guy at the store was telling me an adapter may not work. So what needs to be done?

The adapter works that's how I use mine you just need the right drivers especially if you are on windows 10.

damn ok. Windows 10 here. What driver is needed and what adapter you use? I’m pretty new to this. But wait don’t you select that in evo scan?

I used a db9 rs232 serial to USB adapter along with the evoscan serial cable. Had to play around a bit to find the old drivers that work but it definitely works. And yes just need to select the right com port in evoscan.

there is actually some industry drama around the USB to serial converter cables. A lot of the stuff out there has knock off chips because FTDI who holds the patents charges a lot of their converter chip. FTDI decided to put out drivers that initially bricked all the knock of chips. This caused a lot of backlash from consumers because they were just innocent victims here, and was referred to as "FTDI Gate" . So if your cable wont work with the newest drivers chances are its an old knock off and you should probably buy a new one.

TLDR: If your USB-to-Serial converter cable doesn't work chances are its a knock off. You can either hunt for drivers that will work, or buy a legit one.

Tripp-Lite Keyspan 19HS is what I used when I was using ECUflash/Evoscan. Worked fine on Windows 10 as well.

An alternative is to wire the aem directly to the ecu via the rear 02 output.

On second thought wiring to the ecu doesn’t sound very accurate. Will this work?

It should just need the drivers as mentioned above but they usually come with a CD
