Anyone use a jdm gas tank in a usdm car ?!

I have a usdm evo 8 and I went to replace the fuel pump and of course two studs snapped . The oem fuel tank is discontinued but the jdm option is still available. I called stm and they told me they sold about 5 jdm tanks this month but they haven’t tried putting one in themselves. So my question is has anyone tried this yet and does it work ? Does it hold less fuel ? Can’t seem to get answers from mitsu dealer either witch I understand they aren’t in Japan lol I don’t want to assume things but I figured 90% is the same except some evap stuff maybe ? Maybe some of you guys can chime in and help me !

I remember reading somewhere that the JDM tank was smaller because of the AYC.

I'm in the same boat as you. Previous owners broke half the studs off. from what i found some say it is smaller some say it is the same size. The JDM tank also doesn't have the mounting for the fuel temp sensor. i have been looking all over for info on putting it in a USDM car.

Came here to say the same thing. IIRC the JDM tank is something silly like 10 gallons since, you know our current 14 gallon tank is far too large. It should bolt up but as far as what other changes are needed to accommodate it, that is TBD

Thanks guys for the response I wish someone on here actually went through this before I pulvlthe trigger on one at the dealer lol , I also see on some forums that the jdm version was revised and made bigger but I wouldn’t have the slightest clue Imean I wouldn’t mind 10 gallons it’s better then a fuel cell at this point and I don’t want to go that route , I also don’t want to buy another used tank for half , three quarters of a new one , also tossed up the idea of just running a surge tank but if the lift pump craps the bed I’m screwed man is this annoying

I bought one of those JDM tanks from STM. I haven't put it on and it will be a while before it goes on. From what I can tell the only difference is the fuel temp sensor and the fuel tank leveling valve. I might be able to get some side by side pictures of the JDM and a USDM tank tomorrow.

really appreciate this and wouldn’t mind seeing a side by side , now being said excuse my ignorance but without that sensor being there is the use of a standalone going to be necessary? And I wonder if the rest of the us parts work as fair as filler neck and straps etc

I'm guessing that its not necessary because the JDM cars don't use it? I don't know why they put it on USDM cars, but not the JDM cars. I have heard of the fuel temp sensor going out and causing some check engines lights and rough running issues. Maybe there is a way around not having to run a fuel temp sensor in the ECU? I will be running a standalone, so I wasn't to worried about the fuel temp sensor. The USDM fuel filler neck should work and there are no straps that hold it up on JDM or US cars.

I think this it going to be a common question for a lot of US evo owner soon. (JDM tank in a USDM car)

I've order a fuel tank from ears.ie (Ireland)
Was cheaper that others (cost me $550), and I assume its just like JDM in the photos above. But I will confirm what I get when it arrives. I will also make a video about it on my YouTube channel.

Couldn't a TIG welder reattach the studs?

Stock from what I've read and what my tuner told me the car uses the Fuel temp instead of a Air Temp sensor. so switching to speed density and putting in an AIT should fix the issue of not having a fuel temp sensor.
