I think if Daimler gains controlling intrest of Mitsubishi it would be good for Mits. Lets face it most of their product line lags well behind the three other major japanese auto makers in areas like fit and finish and material qualities in the interior. Dodge has benefitted from Daimler-Benz's involvement and I see no reason why it would be any different with Mitsubishi. Mercedes quality switch gear and plastics in an Evo would be nice.

Wouldn't mind seeing a hemi power evo That thing have a hemi!?
The EVO is already "HEMI" powered. The 4g63 is a hemispherical head design

Just for references...

The deal is for a 50% majority stake.

I can't find much reason to complain about a last-gen SLK coupe with a cheaper console that can be directly swapped for the Benz unit. Save for the cigarette lighter and one other panel, you could actually swap out those silver pieces for the 230's brushed aluminum.

The SRT-6 is actually on my shopping list, and if it wasn't for the MR coming down the pike, might already have my deposit. Something about an SLK 32AMG for $17-20K less that appeals to me.

Although the new SLK 350 looks quite sharp! Going to have to at least sit in that when they start making their way down and around to the Newport dealerships.

i'm all for this as long as they don't screw around with the Evo... I still want the USDM Evo's to be as close to the Japanese and European market Evo's as it can be.... I basically mean that I don't want them to start building the Evo on a different platform and start getting too far away from what the Evo is.

I own a DSM, but I can't go Lancer unless it's EVO. And they're not available up here, and I don't have the money. So there goes that idea.
It is most certainly not the same engine. It is a new design which you can read about in many back issues of car magazines.

I dont' care how they build it.. Just keep the soul intact. The precision, the oneness.. heck make it out of balsa wood if they can retain it..

Actually it is a modified Pent-roof head with additional quench areas. Hemi heads as a technology were old news even when the first and second generation Hemis were around. This as an old ‘Cuda owner. Offenhauser and others had proven the 4 valve head was superior long, long ago.

The new hemi is also not a true hemi anymore. But it is a good piece of work.

Guys,

Think about it for a second. Why are they buying them? Ultimately to sell more cars. One key to that is branding. Mercedes/Chrysler/Mistu will all have thier own branding niche. They may share platforms at the chassis level, but each brand will retain it's own flavor.

The EVO is a key part of Mitsu's line up and that won't change because of the purchase.

I have not read this whole thread. so sorry if i am repeating what anyone else has said.

I was talking to my boss about this whole matter at work...(He owns a mitsu store)....says that mitsu needs 3.8 billion dollars of cash infusion to make to make this thing work. He also went on to say if mitsu was a newer line like Daewoo who was never really established here...mitsu would be gone. He made the comment that chrysler who I guess depends alot on mitsus technology also said that they have committed to using the lancer chassis for the next generation neon, which most of us already knew. It is a done deal so they can't turn their back on mitsu as of now. He was saying that chrysler is most likely going to purchase another 30 or so percent of Mitsu...so that would be a total of 60 percent now, from the 30 percent they bought a while back. So yes chrysler would own most of mitsu.

I think Finbar will do a good job after chrysler gets mitsus butt out of the hot water. He did amazing things for hyundai, and he'll do it for the triple diamonds. Mitsu needs this new eclipse coming out to be HUGE!!! Along with the current galant and endeavor.
