Having an odometer issue, need advice!

So I got my 2003 evo 8 in 2015 from a private seller. When I bought it, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, everyThing worked. I went to get it appraised at a dealership and was informed that there was a discrepancy in the mileage that was reported. Is there anyway to tell if the odometer was tampered with and is there a way to fix it, how do I tell how many actual miles are on the car?

You didn't run a carfax on the car when you purchased it in 2015? Sounds like the previous owner may have swapped gauge clusters......or worse...

I didn’t realize when I bought the car, I was younger and not as wise. Anything I can do now? What are my options?
