Evol 9 state referee

Before i start. I would like to thanks everyone here for help one and another out.
I drive a 2006 evol 9 se. Love it!!
i live in cali so my car got a random state ref out of nowhere...
My car is bone stock and been sitting in my garage only.
BAR said some doesnt seem right with my last smog check which 2 years ago so i need to get state ref. And my car need to go to the dealer to check on the pcm make sure i haven't mess with it. Drive 1 hrs and 30min to the nearest dealer to check it and the guy told me i probably got state ref because i never take my car in to get the pcm recall done...
Well now that kinda make sense now.
Anyway got the pcm recall done and take it to the referee... the referee guy take two hrs just trying to figure out why is my o2 sensor on the catalytic converter...
He told me it supposed to be behind the catalytic converter...
I tried to explain to him that on evol 9 the o2 is on the Catalytic converter and the evol 8 is after the Catalytic converter. He said he know more than i do so he failed my state referee. He said i need to provide proof that the o2 sensor and catalytic converter are in the correct spot.

My question is where do i get some proof that on evol 9 the o2 is on the cat.
Will dealer able to provide me with that kind of information?
Gotta drive 1 hrs and 30min to the nearest mitsubishi dealer.
Or is there a way i can get proof by not have to drive so far away?

Everything else like emissions and other stuffs all passed.
Besides the o2 sensor and catalytic converter because the o2 is on the Catalytic converter...

Thank you everyone

Another idiot arrogant state ref. I just don't get how these guys are hired when they have an attitude that they will catch all these illegally modded cars, even when they claim stock stuff are aftermarket. It's a witch hunt.

I'd have the dealer sign off that your car is stock with a picture in report.

yup and he was saying i need to buy a whole new catalytic converter and the correct pipe where the o2 sensor supposed to go on... I keep telling him that he look at evol 8 on his computer and not evol 9 if he see that the o2 is after the Catalytic converter but he still insisted that he got the correct vehicle. I just give up on trying to argue with him.

This is something my brain can't even process. My response would have been "it's my vehicle, what business is it of yours if I mess with it or not!?"

I know, I know. California has super strict rules in place. Just completely blows my mind.

Good luck with the state ref.

The refs in Fresno SUCK. On the bright side, we have a new Mitsu dealership that should be able to help you out in the future. And yes: if the ECU updates haven't been done, they will flag ya for that, too. Back when I used to have to deal with all the smog bull****, I had a friend that worked for the old Mitsu dealership and would enter my car info in for ECU updates, any time they had one. That way, I wouldn't get flagged for smog. I totally forgot about that until now.
Good luck, man. I feel your pain on dealing with smog shops, the ref, etc. The only thing more frustrating than complying to all their crap, is having to actually deal with them. The ref not listening to you and brushing you off is beyond ridiculous. It also sucks there there is nobody "over his head" that you can contact. Smog ref = god, in the automotive world.

This exactly. Then I would say to him, "Sir, with all due respect, how do you actually know that I don't know more than you about this topic? What if I was an automotive engineer and what about me says i'm not? Wouldn't it have been less work for us both if you had just given me the benefit of the doubt and looked up the service manual for the o2 sensor install location?"
/end rant.

I hate people like that.

Go back and tell him it's in the right place again, and wait to see if he argues with you.
if he does, calmly pull out the piece of paper and throw it in his face LOL

So, if I spend several thousand dollars on a stock motor (because I currently have a 2.4 so it'll never pass ref) they will STILL continue ****ing with me like this?

I'm guessing the stock ECU rom wouldn't know what to do with it, MIVEC gets all screwed up with 4G64s, I don't understand how it works but the timing is weird. I get a permanent CEL too, I forget the code, but that's just how it is.

If you get an @$$ referee like the one we have here than pretty much you probably have to argue with that referee a few time. Lol

True. Fresno's ref has been infamous for YEARS. The dude HATES modified cars. His hobby is seeing how many he can fail.
In all seriousness, he does enjoy it.
