Evo 8 TOB not staying engaged?

Hey everyone wanted to see if anyone can help me out, I’m putting together me 2003 evo 8 but I’m running into an issue. I’ve searched and found vague answers as well as dropping the transmission. If you’ve done it you know why I’m dreading to do it again.

Anyways, with pressure I’ll get the TOB to engage the pressure plate. However with minimal amount of force it will release. The clutch, pressure plate and TOB are new and I have the ACT monoloc on it (Side note one of the wave collars came off during installation) could that possibly be the reason?

Ultimately just want some feedback if anyone’s run into the same issue and solved it without needing to drop the trans. Haven’t tried really forcing the fork, as I don’t want to bend the fingers of the pressure plate or anything. Thanks in advance!

I would definitely put the wave washer back on that's what locks the tob collar into place. Sucks but you will need to drop trans again

So I’m having similar issues and with a search this is all I could find. I’ve dropped the transmission four times now. Grrrr, on a positive note I’m very proficient at it now. Back to the issue, I can get the tob to seat into the mono lock collar but the collar pulls out and does not sit flush on the pressure plate. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s suppose to snap in completely.

If not then I might have another issues. How does the collar look through the inspection port when on correctly?

There will be a small gap between the PP fingers and edge of monoloc. You will be able to see the wave washers in between. Maybe a couple mm or so.

but not the same gap you have with the mono lock collar just sitting with the springs? Because I’d guess it’s the same gap I have when the collar is sitting waiting for the transmission to be put up.

Just to add more info. I have two tob’s and two mono lock collars. I installed the tob and collar into the pressure plate, (without the transmission) one of the sets locks in all the way. The other set doesn’t seem to snap in and stay as well. When I attempt to fit everything together it almost feels like I just don’t have enough motion with the clutch fork to secure it together. I haven’t really tried pulling really hard on it hard as of yet. One final piece, I have no master cylinder pressure. I have all the calipers off the car being repainted. I know that will affect the slave cylinder.

I'm not really sure. I've always just thrown everything together, never compared. You're snapping the TOB into that collar and the wave washers are keeping tension. I guess it would be the same. 🤷🏼
You should be able to snap everything together without pressure from the slave cylinder. Having no fluid in the line won't matter.

so should it be super hard to push the fork forward after in place? The same way you would with the slave?

Assuming "forward" means the way the slave cylinder pushes, yes. You're still pulling against the PP. Should be impossible to move.

ACT sells two different monolocs. Are you sure you have the correct one?
