do i NEED a pressure plate?

i'm starting to experience slow engagement into second when i shift at 5500 from first. i have a manual and am thinking of getting a new clutch. do i need a new pressure plate when upgrading my clutch? i was thinking of getting the road race one. the disk itself is pretty cheap but the pressure plate is damn expensive. so do i need the pressure plate?

clutch

well id say if ur gonna get the disc go for the matching pressure plate. I would not mix a highperformance disc and a stock pressure plate sounds like troubble , plus i dont think it would feel right haveing just half of it done right

Replace the pressure plate. You're going to be spending a lot of time (if you do it yourself) or money (if you pay for the labor) to replace the clutch disc. There is no extra work to replace the pressure plate, since you need to remove it to get at the disc anyway.

If you're upgrading the clutch, the pressure plate upgrade is just as important as the disc replacement. Also, there could be fitment issues if you try upgrading the disc only -- you don't want to find out in the middle of the job that your new disc won't work with your old pressure plate.

You may as well do both at once. The 22nd or 23rd I can confirm fitment of my clutch...maybe earlier if I'm lucky.

EDIT: A 1.8l Mirage clutch if you didn't see it already. Pretty much just making absolutely absolute that it'll work, though I have little doubt to begin with.

Nah, I'm not even doing it. I'm going to try to spend the day down at ILP and chill for a bit. Hopefully my Wilwoods will be in by then and I can put them on while I'm there. If not I'll either heat wrap my manifold or work on my gauges while they work on the clutch. I'm leaving the car there for the weekend regardless though so I may not have confirmation on the clutch until as late as Monday the 23rd.
