Another crashed Evo
I echo everyone's sentiments - Glad you guys are OK, I just wish it had been the 2003 Civic and not the Evo. Especially a good Evo, which it sounds like yours was.
Pretty freaky about that tire. If you find out anymore details about that it'd be great to hear about it. Most would say Continental is a really reliable, high quality tire.
So, what's next? A comfy Evo X MR? Try to find another CT9A?
edit: on 2nd thought, maybe had it been the Civic you and your wife wouldn't have fared so well. In 2006 Honda went to the ACE body structure but the 7G Civic not so sure how that would have held up.

My condolences to the OP for the loss of his car. I can't imagine this happening to a car that was made of blood sweat hope joy and tears. To those who are reading this consider an insurance policy with an agreed upon value. For a small fee Haggarty as one will pay this amount, and let you keep the vehicle for emotional reasons to do what you want with no penalty. I understand and respect OP does not wish to rebuild, but there are those that might in a similar situation and this makes the process much easier. These are all collector's car now and collectors insurance is worth it. (I do not work in insurance, but cover my important vehicles this way at a level I'm comfortable with regardless of blue book value)
Barneyb, I am very sorry friend. This sounds like something that was totally out of your control. Very tragic news to say the least, but I am glad that you and your wife walked away. Your insight and expertise on this forum are extremely valuable, but after this event I would not blame you one bit if you wanted to switch over to a different car.
This is strange. My father had a set of oem Continental tires this year in which one of them suddenly sprung a bulge. No potholes hit, no curbing of any sort. Of course the dealership did not honor the warranty and he had to come out of pocket. I hope that Continental's QC process is not going downhill...

Very unfortunate circumstances here. Having worked for Bridgestone, and by your description of the pull on a new set of tires, something was definitely defective about that tire, attributing to that blow out. I would follow up with Continental for whatever it's worth. Sorry to hear this.
Crazy, I know of 3 Evos being totaled in the last month or so just in Colorado including this one.
No wonder these cars are getting more and more rare. There were only 21k Evo 8/9s in the US to begin with. Figure half or more of them are crashed, stolen, totaled or not registered for whatever reason.
That one was from theft and also was an Evo 9 I believe.

. Its a miracle there are still as many as there are appearing online considering the rate at which these cars are crashed in street and motorsport/ruined for other reasons. 21k for all of north america is a pretty rare car to begin with but in another 5 years or so at this rate I can everyone kinda staring at eachother wondering where all the evo 8/9s went. Even in **** condition they will be hard to find.
I am glad to hear that everyone is ok! Its sad to read that the Evo was totaled. In my opinion, there is not an equivalent Evo on the market that you can buy to replace the one you had. I am looking forward to seeing what will replace it if you decide to get another car.
