Trans case is also discontinued so imagine cracking or braking your trans case and only option would be to weld and repair it.
transmission case isn’t discontinued, and if your taking about the transfer case they never sold casings for it. Oh and do not try to weld
it won’t last long unless it’s done by a pro.

I will respectfully disagree. IMO, these folks provide a service that benefits the community. I don't see how making more parts available increases the price.

I've bought a bunch of parts through various dissmantlers. If not for them, I don't know if my evo would still be on the road.

I'm not sure I follow how that works.

I agree to an extent.

Buying a wrecked/abandoned car then stripping it to sell the parts for more than 3x the price you'd get if you sold it as is? Pretty known concept. Part outs are common from Japan to the USA and it yields a major profit for the individual doing it. You can buy a totalled evo 9 on a copart auction today for 15k-20k. Then sell each part individually and collect up to 35k-40k then they scrap the shell. That's just with one car. Saldy some shops in japan are doing it with perfectly running clean cars because it simply cashes in way more than selling as a whole.

If so many shops are flooding the market with parts, why are the parts so expensive?

They’re expensive because of greed, they’re not enthusiasts or here to keep the platform alive. They are here to keep their pockets
flooded with cash and when the Evo is no more they’re on to the next platform.

The market will decide what the price will be (supply/demand).

Humans are greedy. You can lament that fact, but it won't change anything.

I'm just gonna use fairy dust and dreams while assuming that 3D printers will get good enough to pop out whatever spec they're given, car parts included.

Fairy dust would be a good name for some DMLS media. I am also a techno optimist. Jay Leno has been 3d printing unobtanium parts for a while now. It's been a years, but I've seen videos of him talking about 3d printing and car restoration.

Banking on the notion that these cars have a pedigree in many forms of motorsports and aftermarket will keep them alive. They are too loved all over the world and still raced competitively to die off anytime soon.

I Dunno. It's already hard to find a lot of stuff. A 1995 Honda Civic? Easy. 2006 Evolution? Good luck.

The technology is here. Its possible to scan any part and it can be printed in whatever material you want. The thing is that printing out parts individually is still expensive compared to buying an overpriced rusty version of the same part that you have to convince a parts dismantler to sell to you.

Once printing costs go down or the parts are not available then it will shift into making or manufacturing parts rather than selling whats available.
