Mustang GT to Evo IX?
I think it depends on what kind of power level you are after. The biggest difference I would say is that an evo in the 400whp range will be very quick and fun. The steering will be much sharper as well. I wouldn't call the evo light weight (around 3200lbs), but it certainly feels very nimble. If you're tired of constantly spinning the rears once boost hits, the evo will be a welcomed change. It certainly is a very different driving experience. And due to the gearing, some would say the evo feels kinda high strung.
I've never had a high hp rwd car but I do like having traction and being able to run through the gears. I have ~400whp on a stock block, small cams evo and really enjoy it. You can't beat the all weather/conditions traction imo. Being able to go wot in 1st through 3rd is fun when your average rwd v8 car is just getting into 2nd and spinning... I also don't like going crazy speeds so that's a big factor if you're into the triple digit kinda thing.
I just did the opposite. I recently bought a supercharged Corvette.

Budget plays a huge part. And he already has a 2017. A 25k evo is half the price of most modern performance cars. The evo is a very old design for sure, but not everyone wants a new car feel.
A 25k evo is gona have a load of problems on the horizon/be pretty high miles and you probably have to put the work/more funds in to modernize it anyway. Any half decent one is gona cost new modern car money. Even if it's a clean oem example you're looking at 50k plus.

OP, what im trying to say is, be real with your expectations. An evo is based on old technology and a econobox car. But... also based on the most advanced rally tech at the time. It is very fun to drive, i would recommend at least test driving one if possible. If you're looking for modern creature conforts, possibly a warranty, something thats killer out of the box, cars like the new supra, M2 or similar are hard to beat.
Theres a reason old JDM cars are in high demand. The evo is not high on the list, but its on the list nonetheless.

His evo is a high mile chassis. Any car with high miles isn't worth much. Maybe not fix but to make it compete with modern cars and be reliable yea itl probably need another 25k. Most people who buy evo 8/9s choose them for the analog experience and prefer the classic tuner looks as well. With all the adtermarket parts available and the tech, anything can be modified to beat anything these days. It's a matter of $$$.

Yea.. tech has come a long way in 20 years for sure. I would agree its an inferior car to many newer cars. My evo was a daily driver for many years. Its not great at 1 thing, but does so many very well. We dont get much snow where i live, so i was able to drive it year round year after year and it never broke down on me. Im very glad i bought it. There are much better cars nowadays if you had to only pick 1. As a 2nd + car, the evo is awesome still IMHO.
