Unhappy Rust under top window molding

Hey Gang, it rained heavily in the Bay Area a few weeks ago and I noticed water in my cabin. Sad times. I took it to an auto glass shop and they pulled the headliner down a bit to check before replacing the window. They found rust under the window molding probably from a crappy windshield replacement I had done a decade ago.
I did some testing and found that when I pour water over the top molding (staying clear of the sunroof area) the water drips about a drop every 20 seconds through the sunroof switch. Anyone have any recommendations as to how I should tackle this? What would be the best method that an auto body shop should follow to fix it so that I don't end up wasting money? I took it to one shop and they told me that the whole roof would need to be replaced. Sounded extreme to me.

Interesting. It's a stock Evo 9 Black Tarmac. What type of pics should I post? I don't have any pics of the actual damage. It's all hidden under the window molding.

Pop the moulding and have a look. It's possible you could do a maniac attack with bondo but cleaning the area would be essential to any success. Pop the trim and see.

Even if I find rust in that area, I don't have the tools to fix it so it sounds like the shop's first task would be to pop the molding and check the extent of the damage. I'm just assuming the worst since it's already leaking water into the cabin. Here's an unlisted video of the leak,

Daaaaaaaaannnnng. Yeah, for sure look at a serious proper fix. Yer black so CF would look good, and check junk yards for Lancer headliner without sunroof.

Is the windshield the original to the car? Has it ever been removed and reinstalled?

Nope, it was replaced about a decade ago by some third party that doesn’t exist anymore. Probably a crap installation that caused the rust to slowly develop.

That's my guess, too. Mitsubishi used a hygroscopic adhesive for the roof in the 1990s and roof rust was inevitable on those cars, but they found out and fixed it for subsequent models. I haven't seen any information to suggest the CT9A is prone to roof rust like the earlier cars, unless some dipstick mucks up an installation. This is just bad luck.
