Evo 8 stalls plus burning rich
Evo 8 stalls plus burning rich
Hello, I have a 2003 evo 8 that I am working on the evo will start up and then it will want to stall unless i keep giving it some revs the car worked fine before until the customer/previous owner decided to mess with the boost controller he said he felt more power at first then after a few weeks he said he noticed the car went very limp and he noticed the symptoms of the car wanting to stall we changed the spark plugs we changed the fuel pump got a new air intake because last one was pretty busted up at one point the car wouldnt even start anymore but started again after the new plugs you could definitely tell it was burning rich by the smell and amount of smoke I am not too experienced in figuring out problems like this any information would help thank you
Edit: the car now starts and runs however is in limp move when driving i can only go up to 20mph what i did was i fliped the fuel relay number two but now the fuel levels dont show even when i flip it the right way gonna replce it and hope for the best

Wel in order to help we need better info...What mods are on the car who tuned it and what was the previous known boost and AFR ?
1. boost leak test first. hoses could be leaking or blown off. Fix or replace any issues
2. then check the waste gate adjustment. Should be about 1/2 the peg showing . You would need to pull adjustment over to the peg to hold tension. Too much tension will allow runaway boost.
3. Then check the tune and AFR using wideband. Make sure the boost level is safe and doesnt exceed what it is tuned for
4. check the turbo at start up, if you hear screeching the cold side wheel is hitting the compressor housing = new turbo.
