Also ive been making progress on other aspects of the car. Now its not a gutted shopping trolley, got the interior buttoned up. Welded all the seat provisons back in. While it was all apart I purchased and installed some A star fabrication cables/bracket and base bushings. The rest of the body underneath has a lot of aftermarket bushings so these cables should help make the shifter proper. and yes, at some point later when the car is running/driving I will primer the floorboard and coat it on the interior. The bottom ill do woolwax/fluid film to protect from the elements.
some of the braces/bushings underneath...also has SS brake lines all around, wilwood brakes up front and aftermarket front and rear sway and stabilizer bars along with mustache bar bushings. Tanabe sustec coilovers...fortunately the minimal driving ive done with the car it still has proper street manners, it doesn't drive like a clapped out track car.
Haven't had a chance to begin motor pull yet, but I got some parts in the mail so began installation. install took about an hour cause I purposely didn't bolt the center console down. Along with the Short shifter I also installed the base bushings. I'm a huge fan of having a great feeling shifter and this so far doesn't disappoint. A star cables, bracket, solid base bushings, Megan short shifter and factory shift knob. It all feels great together. Just need to get the car properly sorted so I can actually drive it
Productive Sunday. Pulled the car in and began disassembly to prep pulling the motor. Got it all done and pulled it out today. Next step will be disassembly of hte longblock.
Started tearing it down. Block casting shows it as a 2.3...i thought the AMS RR motors were 2.4 blocks, still finding out new things as I go along. I see some vertical marks in the cylinder bores, just visual. It could indicate a few things, but among them 1 of them is lack of lubrication. So lets see where this leads us.
seems like it. Curious why it matters? Trans seems to have been rebuilt.
Yea there is a shop in Socal that paints transmissions when they rebuild them through customer request. DB trans. This Evo could have a rebuilt transfercase from them too.
Its hard to tell from the pictures. It could just be dirt and oil mixed together.
Thanks for that information. Its definitely painted. I checked the block, as mentioned above its a 63, so im not so sure its an 'AMS' 2.3 now though. Also seems like a decent amount of piston slap happening due to vertical lines on the cylinder bores. Its only visual, but lets see.
Piston slapping around in the bore. Improper clearance likely. Bearings look ok but I'm guessing based on improper other specs, bearings are likely very loose too. Will have machinist verify bearing clearances. On the plus side, seems like its a stroker crank, JE pistons and crower I-beam rods.
was poking around in the stroker thread and caught note of this: I haven't verified which type of crank i have yet, when the shop takes it all apart ill have a better idea but im going to speak to the machinist and make sure he's aware of this.
