2.3L stroker with 71hta turbo

Hey team, did anyone here have a 2.3L or 2.4L with 71hta turbo? Yes I know many people will say it is too small turbo but this is my wife's evo and currently is 2.3L with evo 9 turbo and she absolutely love the low torque and drive ability around town. The goal with this car was small turbo with the quickest spool possible. Is the 71hta worth upgrade over evo 9 turbo? What I notice turbine wheel is exactly the same as on evo 9 turbo the only difference is compressor wheel so I am guessing it will make 30-40whp over the evo 9 turbo. I just want to make a little better powerband since evo 9 turbo falling quick on its face. Thanks!

I mostly autox so i'm fine with the turbo loosing steam and maybe preserving the motor longer when riding the revlimiter

Thanks a lot. Damn 545 and over 500 torque on this little guy. At what boost level did you made that? Thats impressive to be honest. I was considering fp green or 71hta, and my wife want low rpm torque so that's why I dont want to go anything big as red or black also this evo has act single disc clutch and 1200cc injectors so I cant go to crazy hehe.

believe it or not, I've lost interest in driving fast outside of the track, so I have not looked at my boost gauge in a long while. I'll check it out next time i take it out

To me, on a 2.3, I would go to a green. You'll get some benefit from the bigger turbine side reducing the backpressure and it will hold a little more up top. It really comes down to use case though as Vicious pointed out.

yeah maybe a little bigger would be better. I think the extra displacement helps in the lower rpms

Thanks, guys! I might search fp green. I found really good deal on 71hta locally but I am still thinking about it. Another question and I know this was talked about 1k + times, but any of you guys running balance shafts with 2.3/2.4 motors? Reason I am asking because on most motors I am removing them but 2.3/2.4 motors seems to vibrate more than 2.0L. Do you guys remove them or keep balance shaft on street motor? I am considering to install them back in this 2.3L. Rev limiter is 7,500rpms because of small turbo and stroker motor and it will never have more than 500hp. Thanks!

Do you have a dyno sheet or even just numbers for that car? You never see stock turbos on a higher displacement evo so I'd be curious to see how early that thing comes on!

The balance shafts are designed to work on a 2L. They might still on a 2.3 but most people delete them and run a fluidamper.

The car was tuned on the street not the dyno so I dont have a dyno sheet but I can make a data logger whenever I have a chance to give you an idea. On the virtual dyno it made 395whp and 450torque and it is spooling faster than regular 2.0L by around 300-400rpm's. It is oem evo 9 turbo fully ported exhaust housing. It is falling on its face after 6k-6.5k rpm's but still pretty fun car to be honest.
