Why such a variance between Evo 1/4 mi. trap speeds?
Why such a variance between Evo 1/4 mi. trap speeds?
Looking at all the magazine testing results over this past year, one can find a huge variance in 1/4 mi. performances for a stock Evo. I've seen speeds as low as ~94.5 mph and as high as 105.36 mph. Times between 14.4 to 13.1. I understand that the Evo excels in so many other areas, yet numbers for the other (slolam, skidpad, braking...) tests are pretty much constant!
Is temperature that much of a factor with our cars? Do some of these magazines use a correction factor that others don't? I can't for the life of me recall another car that varied so much w/ respect to acceleration.
I have no way to compare my Evo to anything else. My daily driver is an automatic 4 cyl Camry
. So it makes that Evo feel pretty quick!

temp, humidity, elevation play a big part. Turbo cars tend to be more picky about conditions and react more dramatically.
Track condition can effect times although it is an AWD car so it shouldn't play that big of a part but wether or not the track goes slightly uphill or downhill can.
The car used in the test probably has been lent to other magazines so it has been beaten on many times and could be a victim of some clutch slippage. Also the cars probably do not have many miles on them so the engines have not "loosened up"to generate their max power. Since some of the cars are "recycled" as i like to call it for the tests, their virgins motors are beaten on constantly and not broken in right so the car might run 13.3 in one test, and then 13.9 in another.
som drivers are better then others too

Depending on how you launch you can do a 0-60 time between 4.5 - 5.5 seconds. Of course it depends on how much your willing to thrash the clutch / drivetrain. Seems like this could be part of it....
