Alternative to the Evo
1. Cheaper: Dodge SRT-4 ($6K-8K less, and with $900) can be upgrated to Evo class HP.
Scion TC - Even less. Minus: 160 HP, Pluses: awesome interiors, share some
Celica Parts, TRD parts do not void warranty (Supercharger is comming)
Also Eclipse, and Tiburon.
2. Similar: STi, S2000.
3. More expensive: 350Z, Viper.

Alright, if you want evo similar cars...
Cheaper: SRT-4, Used S4, Used turbo'd IS300 (yes they are out there for 24-25k)
Same: Gotta be STi cuz thats about all their is to compare
More expensive: New S4, G35 sedan, BMW 325i
There, all 4 door, almost all turbo, and almost all AWD. Should be a good list for ya.

if i had the money, i wouldve bought a new s4. i am a little bit dissapointed that audi threw in the towel with the turbos, but that 8 rocks and rolls. as far as that though, to get something that is equal in performance, you will spend more money, unless it is a sti. sure there are some cool cars out there, but i am really happy with my choice. i will save the S4 card until i can afford it. they are asking 50k for those things. but the bi-turbo previous generation is nice.
