Alternative to the Evo

If you guys were to choose another car besides the evo, what would it be?
give me one for each, and tell me why please.
1. Cheaper
2. Similar price range
3. More expensive.

This thread will probably be moved into the Other Cars forum, but oh well.

1. Cheaper
Cheaper? Ack, that's tough. I guess it'd be a JCW Mini Cooper S. I liked the original S, but it just petered out near the top of the rev range, and the JCW package is purpoted to remedy that. Handled bloody well for the price, pretty versatile, there's been a minimum of issues, great residual value, and you can park it anywhere.

2. Similar Price Range
S2000. Best manual transmission I have ever had the pleasure to work, bar none. Controls and seats are perfect for my height and waistline, plus I like how the driver's side portion of the dash is angled inward and very accessible. Can drop the top in the summer, run the hardtop in the winter months, and it's a pretty fun ride given you keep it in its sweet spot. And like the Cooper, the S2000 holds its value extremely well.

3. More Expensive
With money as no object, an Aston Martin DB7 Volante. No, its not hard-edged, but if I had this much money an Evolution would be my weekend track car. I've had the chance to have this car for a night, and I'd do anything to have it again. Undeniably the ultimate drop-top grand tourer. Attention to detail and materials quality that is at worst a step below Bentley -- we're talking cows raised in special pens with no rough edges to ensure their hides are never scraped. A waterfall of torque, seemingly linear acceleration into the triple-digits. Plenty of road feedback, but still isolated from all the nuisances. Dead silent with the top up, and with it down, turbulence is minimal. Gimme my Aston.

are you an eclipse owner? I was actually thinking about the GT, but I was still in love with the GSX, and having a later model with lower performance numbers didn't do the trick for me.

as for alternative cars, how about the suby, VW R32, RSX -S (is the Type R ever coming to the states?), celica GTS, 350z, IS300, hmm.. that's all I can think of now..

going more than the evo I think is out of the question now. even the evo would be pushing it.

plus I don't think my ride would stay stock very long no matter what car I get, so performance could be gained, but the car should have potential.

actually, i'm not a big fan of two seaters. I'd love to have one, but only if it was my second car. It would be kinda out of place to use it as a daily driver.

Here's my list:

Cheaper: Integra Type R.. arguably one of the best Hondas ever to hit the states.. handled well, looked good, and anything with a 9k redline from the factory is cool with me.

Similar: (don't hate) Sti.. having just parted with one so I can get a 05' Evo when they hit I must say it was a good car. Great Power, good torque, nicer interior than the Evo(sorry) and well, it *almost* handles as good as a VIII.. and DCCD is pretty sweet.

More: I'm going all out, but a 911 TT w/ AWD.. shouldn't have to say a word..

Used ('00 or later) Porsche Boxster or Boxster S. The '00 and later cars have lost a great deal of value. You might find that the car is bullet proof, fun to drive and in fact affordable. The norm is lower miles.

Also there are a number of options for more power including headers / fuel, 911 engine swap, twin turbos or a super charger, depending on the model and year in question.

Oh did I point out that Porsche has no problems with tracking the car during the four year warrantee?

the teg is gonna be used, and I prefer a new car.

I already had my fun with tegs, and I wanna get outta the FF scene.

what other cars out there with FRs or AWDs that are performance oriented?

Going on the basis of no 2 seaters:

Flame away:

Cheaper - SRT-4
Good motor, good platform, fairly capable all-around.

Similar - STI
Well, it is similar to the Evo. Golf R32 would be worth looking at too.

More - M5 (2000-2002, not the new bodystyle)
Incredible motor, incredible car.

WSB list is almost what I would do besides that I would get an Infiniti G35x or a G35 in the similar price range category. Other cars are the exact ones I would look at, M5 is one of my all time favorite cars

Cheaper - Golf Cart...Dropped and rollin on dubs! Chromed-out roof cover and Red Bride seats inside. Drop in a Momo wheel, hangy dice, custom interior paint and a big fat fake exhaust tip. Then, I'll pop in an amp and a couple of 12's. Ill top this all off with with jammin hydraulics and call it a day. I think I can get that all done for under 30g's.

Similar Price....modded TT Supra....for this price...probably a single turbo swap, new wheels, engine supporting mods, maybe body work.

More expensive...gotta go American......can we say "VIPER"
