Evo haters strike again - time to sell?
Evo haters strike again - time to sell?
a month ago, one of my rear windows was busted out while parked in my apt. complex. finally got the new tint put on last week.
friday night, my GF stayed at her GF's house - NICE neighborhood too - and Sat. morning she returned home with a key scratch in the passenger door.
i dont have time to enjoy driving the car because i'm either buying/installing/skimming brake rotors (yes, they DO warp quite easily - its not pad buildup) or fixing some sort of vandalism.
i could drive a BMW, Cobra, Vette, Benz or Porsche and wouldn't get so much BS - both from young punks saying "tiiiiiiiight car man" everywhere I go - or - their thuggish-ruggish wannabe schoolmates who're think they're badasses by ****ing with other peoples' property at night. ---- nevermind that i would lose the hypersensitive steering that showcases any amount of runout in a brake rotor.
im sure there are far worse horror stories from other board members and I know it could be much worse, im just saying that ive already had enough to consider selling the car. its not just the hassle factor; if i catch some **** doing this ****, im scared of what i might do. some seriously dimented thoughts go through my head when im cleaning up broken glass or feeling the groove in my paint left by some hater's key. nevermind that i could go insane and try to take on too many people and get my *** kicked or killed.
yes it has an alarm (2-way), but those dont do much to counter glass-punches or car keys.
has anyone out there ever seen or caught someone vandalizing their property?

Infrared flood light + any decent video camera. A web cam hooked up to a PC is just as good. Humans can't see IR light, but the CCD sensors on the camera sure do. It'll be like filming in broad daylight. Surveillance laws allow video too. Sound is a different story however.
Let it run and run... and eventually you'll catch them.
My truck was run into twice while parked and the folks ran off. My Eclipse has been keyed to kingdom come (some gouges 9 feet in length), used as a parking guide, and the tires slashed once. So at least you can know that someone has had it worse to every vehicle he's ever owned.

if i keep having a problem where i live, ill do the surveillance thing, but my main concern is that i dont feel comfortable taking the car out anywhere on a friday or saturday night. if i do, i have to be near a window or somehow be able to see the car or im worried that someone will **** with it.
thats not enjoying the car... so why keep paying for it?
get a new alarm, i just got a viper installed on my OZ and if theres any sort of vibration in there at all, the ****er will go off and page me. and put viper alarm stickers on the windows, and get a gun+silencer for the next time they show up.
Yep I think that is it, I had a NSX in a apartment complex and had no problems. It sucks but if you have a $500 a month apartment your *** is going to get keyed.

Concord... not NH, is it? I just wouldn't expect lots of problems in NH. Too small and quiet out there. It's probably a bunch of punk kids if it is. Kids are easy to deal with if they're young enough.
Kids pelted by truck with snowballs filled with rocks once. They were 14 at most (I was 18 at the time). I blocked their driveway (their folks were home), went around the backyard, grabbed two of them by their ear (man, were they screamers) and dragged them to the front door, and rang the bell. Told their folks what they did and let them know a state trooper would be there in 5 mintues if we didn't come to an agreement.
Got the body panel replaced, and they had to wash and wax my truck twice a week, to my satisfaction, until I got rid of it -- even when it was snowing out. The kicker? Their father was running for mayor, and damned if this incident was going to make it to the local media.

So catch the punks, and bust them through their parents. And let their folks know that something is going to be done, or otherwise you'll get the police involved.

I dont live in thug central. i live in a nice area of a nice town.
i dont think it's thugs, its either the suburban wannabe thugs, some jealous ******* who wants an Evo but can't have one, or some ******* that just hates Evos in general (i HAVE been smoking a lot of domestics lately... hmmm).
i keep coming back to the fact that the car stands out so much. the wing is probably the biggest single problem.
everyone I show the car to (friends, family, etc) thinks i put that wing on (its so obviously factory too... people are stupid). ive also had a lot of parking lot issues with people being incredibly rude - despite my obviously older age and *adequate* size.
I drive a commute beater during the week, and I dont get any (parking lot) grief when im in that car... but as soon as the weekend comes and i get in the Evo, people try to play chicken, act like they wont stop, roll down there window and say **** like "yeah, we're all waiting on you" and generally act like i have a sign above the car that says "hey *******, i ****ed your mom last night". its quite an amazing transition from one car to the next. i know the first thought in reading this would be "its probably you driving differently" - but its not, as it happens to my GF too. we're both amazed at how differently people act because of that wing.
and it makes sense i guess. think of the last time you saw some bucket with a tacked-on wing. how were they driving? what caliber of person did you expect to be driving the car?
unfortunately, the general public is too stupid to distinguish between a $30k car with a matching factory wing vs. a $300 car with a tacked-on $300 wing.

I have gone stelth because of all the attention I got and don't want dumb a$$es to bust up my ****. I have lived in bad areas and have learned to hide your **** to keep it.
The thug mentality is... if you want it and won't work for it, steal it from someone else. If you can't steal it, fu<k it up. Dude, for the most part, people suck.
I had a guy try to follow me home when I first got mine, three quick turns and a bunch of boost, by by. Off came the wing.
Good luck, BMan.

philly, that's some pretty blatant thread hijacking... why dont you just PM homeskillet?
Bman - my first thought was to remove the wing, but I've seen a friend's car w/o it and I didn't like it.
It's not the lack of the wing that I don't like, its that the rear wheels look way too close to the back of the car without the wing... it would really bug me.
nice car, BTW, I like the painted louvers.
I'd rather get rid of the car than the wing, even though I know it's probably the single biggest source of my frustrations.

If it's such a nice area, then I doubt you'd be getting much grief at your residence. Perhaps it's the fact that you live in an apartment complex without a garage? Don't get me wrong, I'm not unsympathetic... my black Evo was keyed in a movie theatre on a ****ty side of town. That was the last time my Evo went anywhere other than my garage, or my companies secluded parking lot.
If it's not time to move out of thug central, then it's time to move out of the apartments youre in - or get a garage if they offer it.
