Does Megan Racing exhaust still require the purchase of hardware and gaskets

Only thing I needed was two bolts to bolt up the downpipe to the turbo, and I cut my own gasket with some high temp Mr Gasket header material. Some guys used the extra gasket that comes with it and cut the bolt holes out of it to make it work. All other gaskets and bolts are supplied.

Any pics of the parts? I'd like to see the quality of these things. My biggest concern with the cheap downpipes is SEALING. I've bought cheap downpipes in the past w/ thin flanges on my DSMs, and exhaust leaks suck! You can't drive w/ the vents on at stoplights w/o exhaust fumes coming through. It sucked!

Dude, no offense, but why buy a car like an EVOLUTION and then slap "cheap" parts on it...I am slowly adding parts to mine because I am buying the best that money can buy. I am currently looking into the B&B performance exhaust system. The kit includes a cat-back exhaust, mid-pipe, and test pipe. I am getting the entire set-up for around $700.00. It has been dynoed numerous times to pruduce ~50hp...I didn't believe it, but thet don't hesitate sending dyno results...for the money, that is the best performance exhaust/turbo-back kit available...as for the whoel japanese parts thing. I don't care where the parts come from, I look for quality and performance gains...Billy Boat is top-notch is both aspects...

Here is a picture from a thread that option imports was selling the megan racing downpipe and test pipe for $250. I got just the test pipe for $160 shipped. I compared to my buddies HKS they look identical with the exception of the way they bolt up to the turbo. HKS uses the orginal doughnut gasket and springbolts, the magan racing pipe has a thick flat flange that you will have to get a gasket for as well as the two bolts to bolt it up to the turbo. I took the factory bolts over to the local bolt store and cut my own gasket out of some mr gasket header material.

Just a thought here - isn't the cheapest turbo back exhaust the one that you've already paid for? I understand you're looking for an inexpensive upgrade, but your wording implies that you're scraping pennies to pay for this.

Granted, some designs work better than others, but not 2 to 300% better.
no no no, make no mistake, i do understand your point. i just think that it's just as ridiculous to say that it's stupid to buy an expensive part for the evo. to me, it's enough to say that MR makes a great exhaust that competes or is better than much more expensive exhausts, imo. yes its not a ferrari, but that doesn't matter much at all.

oh, and i noticed that you're on socalevo now... that's cool, it's a good board.

I like it better than Evom... less nonsense. I'm on NorCal too.

I guess I see your point... It is the same, yet opposite of mine.

In America we have the freedom to install cheap parts then remove them and install expensive parts. Or vice versa. You see? Now you can understand that installing cheap parts is not a big worry.

There's a difference in cheap price vs cheap quality. Actually, B&B doesn't have a straight through design muffler. Run a search about B&B exhausts. I still don't understand why people haven't made more fuss about their dyno claims. BTW, $700 sounds really expensive for just a catback and test-pipe. You can get a full T-back from Buschur, RNR, MR, Helix, etc.

My advice to you is save your money for now. Carefully plan your mods cuz if you buy some cheap piece of crap now, you end up paying even more later when you decide you need something better. When you carefully mapped it out and got the money for it, then do it.

I pieced my exhaust together. (HKS exhaust, Helix downpipe, HKS RS intake, Vishnu X-Flash, and dynotuned by the MAN himself, Shiv) Don't get me wrong, i'm happy with what i have...cept the intake which played havoc on my EVO. But with what i spent....i could have gotten the Vishnu stage 1.

When i got my catback i was broke, so i bought an RS*R for $440. I continuously get compliments on my cars sound, and i couldn't be happier with the quality. I proceded to buy an RS*R downpipe (also really cheap $200 (?)) and a ultimate racing high flow cat and had my downpipe modified for it and installed for $60.

Do i feel bad that i didn't pay a ton of money for an HKS exhaust? No, and i wouldn't do it even i had the money.

BTW, if u think any catback and testpipe is gonna give you 50hp you are on drugs. That's the stupidest thing i've ever heard.

Robert,

I understand where you are coming from but I need to stick to our policies, we cannot give you a refund after 7 days. I offered to give you a MR test pipe at my cost to help you out. The warranty the DP and CB is covered by MeganRacing not us. We are still willing to work with you on getting this solved.... BUT we cannot accept the return, especially since you car was in a accident.

I was trying to save some money and had read that on the forum that people had had good results with the MR stuff and seemed to like it. so imagine our surprise when my friends and I took the exhaust off my car and when we were going to bolt the MR exhaust together neithor the cat back flanges NOR the downpipe flanges fit the stock cat....

and when i tried to ask james (the speednstylz guy), he said i couldn't return it (which i wanted to do) because it had been more than 7 days but i could by a MR hi-flo cat. except that unless there ANOTHER Megan racing hi-flo cat thats not on the MR website, the MR hi-flo cat isn't a cat. its just a test pipe that they CALL a hi-flo cat.
