Tarmac Black
I think black is the best color when it's clean. Also, I think black looks best with any aftermarket stuff, like JDM rears and new wheels and stuff. I like my Silver, though, because I rarely wash it and unless it's right next to a super clean car, it always looks great.
I loved my black EVO. It was really tough to keep clean. Since I work a lot and can get lazy, I wouldn't buy another black EVO. If I get another EVO, it would be in either the blue or silver color.
If you don't mind keeping it clean, then go for it. When the car was clean, waxed, and shiny - it was the sexiest car on the road.

plus the AC doesn't need to work as much to cool it and swirls don't show up as much either.I have a white Accord and love it. Yes, it gets dirty too but not nearly as much as black. Wish I was smart enough and got a white Evo too.
I have a black RA, my girl has a silver OZ. We wash em on the same day, and mine looks dirty the next day while hers looks good for a week or two.
Every little scratch or rock chip stands out like a turd in a punchbowl on black too.. They used light primer under the paint. Even though the OZ is 2 years older, it looks newer than my RA, the dings blend in with the light grey primer.
I would definately go with silver.
My $0.02

I've had a black 99 miata and a 2001 s2000. I will NEVER go back. It takes too much time and energy to maintain. Let me put it to you this way, you take 5 hours to wash, clean, wax, and polish a car. Take one spin around the block and the car will look filthy. Just not worth it IMHO. But I will say that black is STUNNING!
As mentioned before black cars certainly get hotter in the sun. If you've never done it before, go to a car lot on a hot day at about 3pm. Get in a white car, then in a black one.
Of course, if you're getting an RS remember it's not an option. RS's only come in white and red.

Mine's black too, and I'm on board with most of the other owners--it's definitely a color at the extremes (cleans up best, but also can look worst dirty). In that way, it reminds me a little of the Evo itself...it requires a little more attention, but when you give it that attention it really shines.
On the whole, I'd say it's worth it. Something that sets it apart is the way the color compliments the chrome badging. For some reason the black really shows them well. Especially makes a good presentation on the rear decklid if you remove the "lancer evolution" badge, leaving only the centered diamond (but I'm sure you've got your own ideas about that). Good luck with your search.
