maybe some people either 1) got a lemon or 2) generally do not know how to maintain or drive their car properly

actually, he has his own mechanic and a few sponsorships, i don't think he's ever planned on taking his car to mitsu if he breaks it. He's one of the few that realize that, if you race your car and do something stupid to it, mitsu should not have to fix it. Tear your clutch up racing? tough ****, you screwed it up, they are not going to fix it.

I have a feeling alot of evo owners just don't like to admit to themselves that Mitsu quality is sub-par. I maintain my car very well, and like I said before, it's a daily driver. (aka it never gets launched or anything stupid)

It just seems weird, that we can have 2 completely opposite ends of the spectrum, one end, the person who keeps their car stock, maintains it well, never does anything stupid, and have major problems, and the other end. Someone whom races their car, mods it, still maintains it well however, and has 0 problems. Maybe there was a bad batch of evo's released in the US, who knows. I'm not expecting BMW or Audi or any brand like that quality of out my mitsu. I had an eclipse for 5 years, I know their cars are top notch, have a tendacy to break down and have little quarks from them, but for the price you pay you probably won't find a better car. IMO at least

~30k is not all that cheap, so you would expect some quality. My wife has a 3g eclipse and a 04 endevor. They have zero problems, of course that's not the same for my evo.

Sad to say a car is after all still a machine... they will always have probs...not saying quality is not an issue however.

I never had any problems with my 2003 Land Rover Discovery.. I put 34k miles on it... at 14mpg!!!

Funny thing is.. my insurance actually goes down if I buy the EVO!

I guess this is a mater of perspective... This is my first Mitsubishi and I will say that I was a tad worried about the quality / reliability going into the deal. I have owned this EVO for over a year and have well over 20K miles as my daily driver. On some days I drive over 200 miles for my job. This car is every bit as tight as my 6 previous Hondas (which I don’t think anyone can argue quality and reliability on). I started modifying within the first few weeks of owning the car and have had no problems at all. I have the original stock clutch and brakes. The car is every bit as solid as the day I drove it off the lot. Heck, I think it runs better now than ever! I suppose the EVO is not for everyone....

I read about issues on these forums, but I have had ZERO issues myself. I am fairly certain that EVRY manufacture of automobile in the world has customers that have warped rotors and their share of clutch problems... I have had more issues with warped rotors on Hondas due to the lug nuts being improperly tightened, but it was no fault of Honda. Not sure why the same issues that can be experienced with ANY other car make the EVO a shoddy vehicle. I can’t even think of another car on the market today that I could easily modify 100+ HP over stock and not effect drivability and reliability as is the case with the EVO...

I've put ~10k miles on my Evo in the last 3 months ... runs like a champ. Overall fit and finish is good, but not as good as that of the Audis I own, which is fine, since I didn't buy the Evo to look good (although with the current mods it finally looks better than my A4). What I find really interesting is now that I've really gotten used to driving my Evo around, it makes my A8 feel like a sluggish turtle (steering feels imprecise, turn-in is sloppy, car feels too floaty when going fast, seats don't offer enough lateral support, etc.). Sure the Evo's ride is a lot harsher, but that's exactly what I love. If I had to use one word to describe my Evo's driving experience it would be: PRECISE. No other car (German or otherwise) that I've ever driven even comes close. ...and FWIW, the brakes on the A8 are a maintenance nightmare ... with normal driving you have to swap pads and rotors roughly every 30K miles (~$800)
