Hotchkis Tuning makes a hollow swaybar for the Evo. I have it and really like it for the additional suspension benefits. It is definitely lighter than stock, but a lot of money if all you want is to shave 1-2lbs.

Would removal of bumper supports make your insurance claims, if involved in an accident, invalid?

Yes, but when accident experts come on site and check out your car, they WILL notice unless the car is in such bad condition that they cannot differentiate which piece goes where
I'm also interested to see if removing bumper beams makes the car street-illegal.

Extremely expensive, but the best places to lose weight are any moving engine parts, and anything in the driveline (flywheel, driveshafts), and then on the axle (wheels, tires, etc.)

but as i always say, street legality isn't a concern for any of us... hmmm testpipe or highflow cat? dp? catback? all illegal to modify or change unless the stock parts fail in NJ...

i think i would avoid removing the rear brace because my reaction time, driving skill, and awareness won't help much when a moronic soccer momma in an SUV dont pay attention and plow into my rear while im at a stop light cuz their braking distance sux......

also the evo weight is front biased so removing both front and rear brace helps with acceleration but not as much with handling.... i think for the couple reasons i mentioned, removing just the front support would be good for me and wiser too.

gaining power will only help when you accelerate in the forward direction (yes i know what if you put in reverse?), weight will also help if you are trying to accelerte in the forward direction, or a sideways direction, or a backwards direction (that braking).

the thing with weight loss is how far you go. for the road you will see some gains from weight loss (look at the RS) but they will be marginal! on the track, that another thing.

thanks Chris.

Weight watchers if you are carrying around more than 10% body fat.

The only things I would drop off the car for a race are the spare tire, jack and passengers. But my EVO is my 'daily' driver so I don't want to sacrifice anything for the occasional autocross.

If your EVO is going to be a dedicated trailer queen then strip everything: the stereo, the seats, the carpet, the door panels, windows, etc. Relocate the battery to the trunk and get a small gel cell battery. Rebuild the engine with Titanium parts. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who can provide detailed instructions. Perhaps somebody could contribute a detailed article to the site's features.

actually this is kinda true and many US evo owner will just get defensive and pissy if you mention this but one of the best and cheapest weight saving is yourself.
just check out how the recardo seats had to be redesigned to fit our bigger ***...

hey improve your evo and be healthy at the same time? hey not a bad idea! hehe
