Evo weight reduction ideas

In my quest to make my evo as fast as possible I have been thinking about making it lighter. I have done a few things :

Buschur exhaust

Mini Battery

Remove spare tire and jack

Are there any other good ways to shed weight? I want to keep a/c and all seats.

remove the stereo, remove AC, replace front strut bars with titanium one, carbon fiber front and rear trunks, fiberglass front bumper, remove rear door panels...

if ur loosing weight for handling on autoX or track, you should consider canards....

Your'e better off by starting w/baasic bolt on mods and a ecu flash for most bang for the buck. Attempting to free up weight can be a co$tly

Weight reduction=diet

If you weigh 300 pounds loose 150. This with combination removing spare tire will save 200pounds!

Just kidding

I have sunroof and I weighed my car with 1/4 tank of gas and spare tire out and it weighed 3170 and 3325 with me in the car. A skinny dude (120 pound) with an EVO with no sunroof weighed his car at 3,140 and 3260 with him in the car with 1/4 tank of gas and no spare. The sunroof adds about 40 pounds to EVO.

anyone make fireglass/keverlar wings for the EVO? remove the spoiler and fit a light weight carbon thingy. bonnet and boot in carbon will also help. running half a tank of fuel. running slicks or cut slicks instead of normal tiers. thinner front screen (i know they did a 2.6mm version on the 6). that with what others have said would be about it for the road.

for the race track, well the simple answer is anything that is not bolted down, or needed. AC, heater, all windows (may need to run windscreen), all seat but the drivers (which should be a carbon one), custom dash, light weight wirering loom, fuel ceel instead of tank, underseal/soundedoning, carbon steering wheel cardon itake, carbon piping, carbon gearbox(!!!!!!!! only in F1), custom bells on the discs, etc, etc, etc.......

chris.

Pull all your paneling/dashboard/soundproofing/carpet. I wouldn't do this to my Evo, but it'd shed weight.

The hood is aluminum. There's no reason to replace it. Trunk is another matter.

Wheels are a big bonus. Since it's part of rotating mass, every pound shed from a wheel is equal to removing 8 somewhere else.

Food for thought: If you drop 100 lbs., that's only going to improve a 1/4 mile ET by about .1 second. It will brake better, and corner better, but only marginally so. We're talking about the Evo, here, and not a CRX. It already brakes and handles like those guys wish they could.

I wouldn't mess up my car to loose 100 pounds

Take out AC

Why go through all the trouble?

Try an old car and not 30K car unless you are rolling in the doe.

hehe yeah.... I did have my prelude stripped out, but this is my daily driven baby w/ loads more torque and a better powerband..... I'll remove the jack/spare, but many of the other things just aren't really worth it... kinda defeats the purpose of my upgrading from the prelude to this car!

Your biggest gains will be in rotating weight (wheels and rotors) and weight that is high up in the car. Run your car as light on fuel as you can.
