Fillup with gas while engine is running??
Just because it's on the Discovery Channel don't make it true.

don't worry evan, we're all pansies...because he's been doing it for years.
So i think we've come to the conclusion
that it could do it....it could set off the MIL, and you could blow up... me i'd rather pick c. TURN THE CAR OFF, and be a pansy or a "hall monitor"

man, talk about some serious people... you guys ever crack a smile? or do you just walk around all day writing safety tickets with a scowl on your faces?
I'm on fire tonight... I'm smokin.... my sarcasm is explosive... stand back or you'll get burnt... i kill even myself!!

Spike- they DID set the gas on fire with a static spark. Their initial problem was they weren't getting the propber AF ratio. once they vaporized some of the gas it blew the **** out of that lexan box they were using. They were unsuccessul at having a cell phone or pager make the gas explode. They also interviewed the guy whose research lead to the sticker you see at a lot of station and he basically says he was misquoted. IIRC he said that the culprit in these cases were individuals (mostly women) who would get in their vehicle to get their cell phone and when they came back to the pump, usually while making a call, they would set the nozzle ablaze. He attributed the fire to static sparks, the safety folks said cell phones, and they're paying for the decals.
Those Mythbuster guys tried to set a fire with a cell phone and gasoline and were not able to.
A static spark will ignite gas at the pump though. Make sure you ground yourself before pumping gas, whether your car is running or not.

I have a question for the safety-police, how the heck does an engine running or not affect body static??? Time for a multi-billion dollar research study, we HAVE TO DO IT... ITS FOR THE CHILDREN!!!

I am older then dirt, and wiser than John Ashcroft, we need to post federal security at gas stations to prevent people from filling up while their engine is running...
even though it doesn't impact static explosions caused by cellphones, clothers or smoking... or gas hitting a hot exaust pipe, when the exaust pipe is 4 feet away, and just as hot as it was when running anyway...
How does turning the engine off prevent gas stations from nuking?

i'm assuming when you remove your gas cap your fuel pressure drops hence why your engine sputters
i dont know about your engine running but there was a video from a gas station security cam... she let her gas pump.. got in her car got something.. got out pulled the pump out and boom! she didnt catch on fire or anything but it scared the *** out of her

Best of all, I believe the gas tank is made in such a way that there's not enough air inside for the tank to actually ignite, in the video if I remember correctly you can see that the fire never goes in, it was only the fumes that got lit up.
Anyone who'll leave their car running at a gas station while they fill it (or smoke) is an inconsiderate ***. Screw what you think you're doing and the risk you may or may not be taking for YOURSELF. How about me and my FAMILY?
I'll personally give you **** AND tell the ownership. Get over yourself. Observe the law. Quit risking lighting up a city block.
