Autoweek Issue - 'Warranty Woes' | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
wow... but let's be honest. Warranty is to cover defects in materials and workmanship... that makes sense. racing will put undue stress on the car... and if you BREAK it cause of this.. you pay for it. Gotta pay to play. If I race.. and I break something.. you will not hear me complain. But I still think the clutches should be stronger!

anyone wanna try an experiment??? Join up with SCCA, and do the thing where you don't race and just take care of setting up the cones... Hope for something to break, let mitsu claim it was autox'd and that's the cause of the problem, then, have your favorite lawyer ready at hand and have a field day...

What Mitsu's spokeswoman doesn't mention is that the warranty restriction was applied before the car was ever at a dealer.

the S2000 board got littered with similar threads about this thing.
It is one man's story that could be full of bull**** for all we know. Did anyone ever figure out for sure how the car broke? I couldn't imagine an 18 year old driving an Evo and not beating the living crap out of it. A couple of misshifts could easily put some stress on the internals.
o well.... MSM got his 15 minutes of fame.

Scot - most of the S2000 issues were post vehicle inspection, and a lot of them were very obviously due to abuse - Wesmasters's drivetrain, for example. Assuming MSM's story is valid (and we must believe it to be unless otherwise proven) this is different because it was pre-emptive on the part of Mitsubishi.
No difference, you pay to play. As soon as I signed up for my first trackday with the Evo (2000 miles), I accepted the fact that if the motor or gearbox pops, I foot the bill, period. I think it's kind of ignorant to expect Mitsu to cover your *** when you're not using the car for its intended use: a street car to be driven daily.
