Isn't that kind of like getting life insurance for a skydiver?

Pay to play...

Why would any would think that if you autocross you are "guaranteed to" have expensive problems down the road? Daily driving is more of a guarantee following that logic.

I don't know which autocrosses you go to, but every one that I've been to starts with an aggressive launch and it's easy to bump off the rev limit if you're not paying attention.

If you drive daily more aggressively than you auto-x, there's either something wrong between your ears or you're not auto-xing fast enough. :-)

4g63,

I wonder if all SCCA events start the same way. For ours, cars start about 4 feet behind the timing device. A wheel-spinning start is just plain unnecessary (and is counter-productive) for us. I just do my normal "take off from the light" start and give it a little extra when I've covered a few feet.

Almost never squeal the tires and put little added stress on the car. When the car is moving, the only real stress is on the tires and brakes...which generally aren't covered by any warranty anyway.

Back to the topic...

Regards,
Joel

Joel,
Depending upon where the first cones are, you will get better times by launching the car hard...at least that's what my experience has been.

As always, YMMV.

"But if you’re coming in two or three times to replace a blown clutch, we know you’re probably testing your car’s 0-to-60 time.”

huh?
This line puzzles me the most. We aren't supposed to test the acceleration of the car?
This is the biggest joke to me with the EVO. Claim it's does 0-60 in under 5 seconds.. yeah, it might, but your clutch is gonna sh*t the bed after the 6th or 7th time of trying it. And, you won't be covered if your clutch burns out trying it.

If you roll off the clutch, safely and carefully not to stress your drivetrain, your 0-60 times are gonna be in the high 6's. Mitsu should market the car with that stat and be honest about it.

These stories i've read on this board are pretty scary. I've not had any problems yet, but i drive my car well within it's limits, and i baby it most of the time. If something goes wrong with my car and it's not covered.. I will blow my lid!!

Here is my experience with the warrenty bull ****. I had to replace my clutch after about 9500 miles. It's OK, I was wanting to upgrade the clutch anyways. I installed a Spec Stage 2 Clutch. Now I'm having some issues with my 5th Gear synchro. I've been to 2 different Mitsu dealers that said with the aftermarket clutch, it voids my warranty. The question is, would they have voided the warranty if I replace it with a OEM clutch? If they did I would have to scream "shenanagins!!" The stage 2 clutch is not much more than the OEM. Just gripping compound is different. Since the tranny is out of warranty it'll cost a good $1500 for the repair.

I can see if you drive it hard all the time and you cause a major defect. That can void the warranty. I have not even been on the track. And they can't prove a thing about me driving aggressivly. All they know is I replaced my clutch. I could have done this because I didn't like how the other one released or something. But if they void a tranny issue, like the 5th gear synchro (which has nothing to do with the clutch) Then you know they are just trying to get away with murder.

So far here is my impression on Mitsu.

Car =
Company =

Just my $.02

It's for things like this that I think Mitsu looks scummy. The 5th gear syncro is a known problem, and it's basically luck of the draw whether you get it or not. In your case they are just using the clutch to get out of paying for their own flawed design. Talk about benefit of the doubt - more like we will use every and any far fetched excuse we can to deny warranty !
