Anyone using/have shift light ????
With all the power that some of you have I would think that a shift light would be necessary. I have the BR 4 setup and I feel that I need a shiftlight already. 1 and 2 gear goes to redline too quick.
Anyone have/using a shift light. What brand? Did you tap into the rev on the ECU or directly into the coil pack?
Thks

My eye caught this shift light. I guess you just tap it to your cigarette lighter. I'm not sure of the accuracy of these lights but sounds like a simple install.

That one relies on "Interference" caused by the ignition system, if you have a grounding kit you may not be able to get a good signal..
Anyway, I have a shift light in my car.. The first "Iteration" was hooked up to the Tach lead on the ECU wiring harness and wired using an MSD RPM Activated switch that turned on an Autometer "Shift" light.. Autometer also sells a complete standalone but its a bit larger than I liked.
I have since removed the setup, and use the shift-light output on the TurboXS UTEC with 3 LED's (Actually its a Lumex "Jumbotron" Pixel) Each color lights up for a different RPM, once you hit the third one, all three are Illuminated..
It looks kinda hack, so its not currently in the car till I get the setup "together".. For the time being, I have the old Pencil light hooked up to the UTEC's shiftlight output.
Any of these devices are fairly simple installs if you know where to look to get the signal.. power and ground are easy..

I had one on an old car and it works just fine. It relies on the fact that the alternator doesn't put out DC, thus whatever the car's battery doesn't filter out can be detected by the shift light box.
In fact I tried the box in everything I could find (GM auto transmission cars, etc) and there was no problem. Some people even hook up to the LED outputs and use the box to activate other equipment on an RPM basis.

yeah, Thats actually a good point, I actually don't rely on the shift light now like I might have earlier when I first install it.. I can feel the power of the car and shift when necessary.. but the visual indicator is good if you have things happening too quickly and your not used to it.
