In order to obtain 500whp on a 2.0L turbo engine, you’re going to need to run lotsa boost. At least 26+ psi, depending on your turbo setup. I’m sure it’ll be a blast to drive rally style through the rain and snow just like a rally car! Wouldn’t it be sweet if our everyday commutes were a timed race from start to finish?

Soo what setup are you gonna be running or is this a Hypothetical question?? (I hate when people think that 500whp or even 450 whp is that easy to get).

If you have 500whp on PUMP gas by the winter I GIVE you $20 paypal.

<sarcasm> Yeah, you're right. A guy with a muscle car wouldn't know anything. Anything at all. </sarcasm>

Just because I drive a muscle car does not mean I don't know anything about DSM's. I know some, but not a lot. Besides, I only said the question is stupid on account that it just involves common sense to answer such a question.

So you tell me why would anyone want to drive their 500whp Evo in the snow after the owner has poured so much time and money into it? Even if his/hers Evo can drive in the snow, why would you want that salt and other chemicals they put in the road going on your paint?

I happen to love Evo's has much as any other member here. I happen to want one currently if I can sell my car, I'll use that money as a down payment for one.

I see Evos drifting in front of our store on a daily basis. You constanly hear tires spinning here.
And considering that the boost for the 500whp will come a lot more violent, that means even more danger of loosing control.

Just turn your boost down. If you dyno 500whp in the summer on high boost, just turn your boost completely down, and you will be safe. Now, trying 30psi on race gas and negative intake temps -->> that will be a lot of fun, but please do not wreck your car.

I would figure the powerband wouldn't be friendly to snow conditions. You'd need more low end torque.

sorry to threadjack.
Sentinel and principleofevil you two have the maturity of 16 yr olds at best. Its your kind of people that give evo owners a bad name. Do us all a favor and think before you open your mouth er keyboard.

actually i think we've confused ppl here... by driving it in wintertime, we all are talking about in the snow.

obviously it doesnt snow every single day just because its winter. and during the winter, thats the best time of the year for the evo!! its like a completely different car when compared to how it drives on a hot summer day.

but in the snow, any car will go sideways. actually someone said something here about more low end torque.. but if we are talking about how its better to have less power in the snow- so it doesnt get you sideways- then we wouldnt need more low end torque... in fact i think that was the biggest problem wit my ta... it was too light in the rear- and had waay too much low end torque... no snow tires, and rwd.. yea its just a bad winter car.

btw, i like all kinds of cars- even muscle ones .. just not as my daily driver thats all!

ps lol i gotta stick by sentinal as he had my back on another thread involving gay/jealous NA lancer owners!! ROFLMAO!! wasnt that a good thread sentinal???

Hmmmm...I don't have 500whp, but would think it's better in the winter:
500whp = bigger turbo = more lag = more RPM before power kicks in = more predictable, linear power in the rpm range you SHOULD be using in the rain/snow, i.e. 1K-3K rpm.
Reasoning:
-Wheelspin is wheelspin in the snow: once it happens, it happens, and it happens w/ stock power anyway.
-Speed is speed in the snow...too fast is too fast...doesn't matter how much power you used to get there, or how quickly.
-Braking distance is exactly the same regardless of horsepower.

Everyone has an adjustable boost controller from the factory located on top of your gas pedal. I think they call it a foot. Use it wisely along with the right tire for the season and you should be fine regardless of conditions.

EDIT: One factor would be which clutch you are using. One of those on/off puck types is not going to work very well.

I don't know but does any one else here understand that the long pedal works kinda like a volume control, not an off/on switch?
