I think a smaller wing, or no wing at all, would result in less attention from the law and fewer tickets overall.

However, I don't think that is enough justification to remove our functional wing.

I also agree that the car looks better with the wing than without it.

I'll trade my CF wing for a CF trunk though...
PLUS, dont forget that its functional ABOVE 100mph...so we really never need it cuz we ALWAYS drive the speed limit.

Driving down a four lane divided road, doing the speed limit, a Dodge Ram 1500 hammers past me at least +15 spead limit; the cop sitting on the side of the road with his laser gun paints me, and watches the truck go past ...

red + wing + canards + tint gives you a car that attracts police like Navy dress blues attract lint ...

Never heard of "First car, last car, red car, sports car" before? White blends in, red sticks out. It wasn't the wing that was drawing attention!

I'm debating the CF wing myself, will probably switch to stealth after a few months.

On bikes looks are huge.
I usually get tailed and often pulled over on my black with red flames R6 when I'm going the speed limit.
I once pulled myself over after 5 minutes because I couldn't enjoy the ride with the cop 1/4 a mile behind me. I asked the cop for bogus directions and he gave them to me and left me alone.
On an old cruiser cops don't look at you twice.

Never had a cop pull out behind me when really ripping, which is what I'm usually doing.

For those that want to go stealthier, check this out! It’s a (modified
OZ) wing which is swappable (in 10 minutes) with the CF wing. No extra holes
needed. The wing uses the stock Evo holes that are already present. The brake lights work since the Evo has the required harness already present.

Hm - trying to answer a few questions here.

In California, on the freeways at least, visibility, or perception of such by the CHP, does make a difference. I drove a low 13 second dark green 67 Plymouth Barracuda coupe with steel wheels and no chrome like a bat out of hell for five years without getting one ticket - until some jackass ran a red light and t-boned it. Hit and run no less - no more Plymouth.

The one time I got pulled over in that car at speed the CHP gave me his card, and asked me if I ever wanted to sell the car to give him a call. He said I was going 126. He gave me a ticket for 70 in a 65. That was five years before it got t-boned.

In this latest case, the CHP was on a bike, and claimed he had to go 110 to catch up with me - but wrote "80+" on my ticket. There's no way I was going 110. Most everyone in SoCal seems to drive 80-90 on the freeways as a rule. So who knows. I'll probably do a written trial by declaration, and if that fails, take it to the judge.

The time before this I got a BS ticket for going 15mph the wrong way around an orange cone. This car just seems to be a ticket magnet. All the sudden they all cops seem to know what "kind" of car it is. I took that to court to no avail. The state is low on money. Everyone in that court was tried "guilty" that day.

So 2 points in 3 months, and suddenly driving is just no damn fun. 2 more points and i'm toast. So yeah, probably no way to scientifically prove the wing brings more tickets, but I'm thinking the word on the car has got around. The wing just makes us easy to pick out. Whoa - ranting a bit. Apologies.

Isn't it odd that sportbikes (and EVOs) are the first to be noticed and ticketed by cops, but yet the most 'unnoticed' vehicles on the road when it comes to somebody pulling out in front of one? (Actually had a cop pull out in front of me on my bike the other day).

Double Standard?

jcnel.

it doesn't matter whether you have a spoiler, no spoiler, or a 10 foot arrow on top of your roof pointing downward. it matters how you're driving. are you using traffic as your obstacle course or are you a part of that obstacle course?

just don't drive fast in a place you don't know and always look in your rear view mirrior constantly and if your going to speed make sure you speed away fast from any cars left in your rear view mirror so far its worked for me

It may also depend on what is INSIDE the car as to whether you get a ticket.

Baseball cap on backwards?

Loud rap music on the stereo you have to turn down to hear the policeperson ask for license and registration?

You're gonna get a ticket!

I suggest you wear nice shirt and tie, play Mozart, then drive fast.

better try talk radio, I don't think to many police, to many anything, listen to classical music.
heck elevators don't even hear it anymore.

btw, this thread has just about run it's course, how many times can the same thing be said?
it's common knowledge, you look the part, you speed you pay the fine. what is wrong with that?

if you live in california the terminator has told cops to give more tickets so the state gets more money, judges will not be dismissing cases for any reason. got a ticket? get a lawyer, seems to be the best way out.

as for the wing... i have a weightless white. i used to have a white celica, white cars aren't that flashy. but that wing... darn it all i've been pulled over twice in the past two weeks, all for NO PLATES, cuz my car is NEW!!!! if that's not profiling i don't know what is. one of the tickets actually ended up being a following too close moving violation that i'm gonna have to pay a lawyer for.

be careful guys, as a fellow evo owner i'd like to see all of us get less tickets, i've just resorted to driving like a granny around westwood, there's just no way around it, they can pull you over for any reason (following too close, unsafe lane change, speed, no plates, is what the officer said to me, unsafe lane change? i actually signaled and looked... who does that in la?). if we keep rackin' 'em up like this we're gonna get shafted by insurance within the next year.
