Question 2 Weeks to get MAF replaced? & possible Lemon case

my car has had a "sputtering" problem since new, it has been in for service with San Diego Mitsubishi a few times & supposedly had the MAF & ECU replaced. each time it goes in, it works for about a week, then it acts up again & soon bcomes un-drivable.

then SD Mitsu goes under & closes shop

of course my car acts up again & when i call SD Mitsu im dircted to Poway mitsu who diagnosed the car with a Blown MAF. i say "was'nt it just replaced by SD mitsu?" turns out SD mitsu lied, the service records on my warranty show the MAF was not replaced...... !!

the Service manager @ Poway Mitsu said there out of stock on EVO MAF sensors in the states & it had to be special ordered from japan. it has now been two weeks & im still without my car..............i am now going on the fourth time my car has been in the shop in the 5 months/5000 miles ive owned it & im going on 3-1/2 weeks without the use of my car

CA state lemon law is 4 visits W no fix or 30 days W/O use of car

anyone else having problems aquiring a MAF sensor in the states recently?

is this long of a lead time for basic parts common for mitsu?

if the problem is not fixed this time around im am strongly considering going the lemon route, any advice?

dude, if they replace the maf and it works, just stick with it, if you go into arbitration for lemon law, it will take you a very very long time to get another evo. sorry to hear your probs bro but get it fixed and leave it at that.

Got the car back with a new MAF & within 2 hours it started bucking/cutting out & has now tripped the SES light

i can reproduce the problem by tapping the airbox with a screwdriver handle with the car idling..... when tapped on the top of the airbox, the car pauses, almost as if the spark was cut, the rpms drop & then it pops back to life a split second later

i tried fooling with the wire loom, lightly tugging, wiggling around trying to reproduce the problem, but it wouldnt do anything abnormal

Part No. on the maf was MR578399

couldanyone with a spare laying around or someone with access to a parts manual confirm this is the correct part?

Getting them to buy the car back will take a couple of months atleast. I'm on my second Evo Misu. bought my first one back and it was a big pain in the *** to get that to happen. If they can find and fix your problem without turning your car into a basket case of parts that they thought were the problem and weren't I would just let them fix it.

It definately sounds strange though. Tapping on the air box triggers it. The knock sensor shouldn't hear that. I would think the wiring suspect as well. I wonder if the percusion of banging on the lid freaks the MAF out?
