I dunno how it is like with law enforcers in different states... but in california, almost any non moving violations can be signed of as a fixing ticket (at least those that are not smog and emission related)... I know some of u want to go to court and prove to the judge how stupid that particular cop is, but hey sometimes cops are being jerks and they know it too.. they might give u a ticket for a spoiler, but chances are they wont even show up at court if u do decide to fight it... they just want u to go through all the trouble for the heck of it.. I had a similar experience way back in '99 with my eclipse GST at that time... the cop pulled me over, made me pop my hood (which i later found out i could deny the request for the search without probable cause), and give me a huge mod ticket for a bunch of stuff which I have all legal CARB stickers on... I even told him they are all street legal but he gave me the ticket anyway... well one thing let to another, but eventually I gathered all the documents, proved my case, but somehow I still paid like a $10 fixing ticket fee

Nowadays cops giving out stupid tickets is like companies offering rebates to the consumers... the company comes out ahead if one consumer was too busy to claim his rebate.. same thing with the ticket... the state comes out ahead if someone is stupid to plead guilty to take that wing off and pay the fine.. but hey, it happens

Now my biggest gripe is why would the first cop not pull me over? Did he know the actual laws?

If the first cop didn't pull me over, and the second did shouldn't I have been let go? Well I guess cop are very biased in everyone elses decisions, even their own kind

Just to set the record straight my dad was a Milwaukee cop for 32 years, and know how cop operate with leading you into misdirection. All I can say is thank god for my childhood...lol

For all of you who have had to give your name to police, did you ever notice that he asked you to spell it twice? Ask you where you were going, and what street its on and how to get there?

Cops will always ask you questions 2-3 times just in a different context to make sure your not lying to them. Just a little FYI

But think of it the other way around, are the EVO with CF wings going to be recalled by Mitsu because they do not meet the state's guidelines? Sort of related is when this happened to Audi's TT when it first came out. The TTs got recalled (voluntarily?) because the lack of a spoiler caused the rear end instability (lift) and thereafter, all TTs came with a small protrusion of spoiler.
NO... there is nothing wrong with a "large rear spoiler" (infact on the mitsu site, Last year to note) when u built an evo... u had the option of adding *Large Rear Spoiler" (this was before the site was updated with the RS... Some cops are just asses... I can tell you this. If it came factory then you will have no problem in court. Since the officer assumed u couldn't see and truly has NO proff that you could/couldn't (which i bet u could seeing that the *thin* pice of cf can't block too much.... (then again this comming from one who wants an evo... and doesnt TRULY know) and yes he was prolly profiling.... (although i've never herd of Racer Profiling....) Its just profiling... meaning he assummed u do illegal racing... (and if this sounds like im just stomping on some1s head or pissing on them, i'm not, really. just let it go... that my 2 cents)

and to add on, In my OZ i sorta have the same problem... i have red underbody neons... and everytime i go into noblesville i get fallowed by thier cops... its like the sit at the edge of the town and wait for me... honest to god. i go there to get my hair cut (i know what ur thinking... we know exactly were noblesville is..... yeah i understand i have no pics...) its like when i leave my town and go into thiers (which border each other) i get into "trouble". Heres the thing... I've had 3 Carmel cops say the like the underbody neons, I've had a few fishers ones aswell, when i was pulled over for speeding, the neons werent and issue... and when i was driving thru noblesville... i get every damn cop on my ***... and god help me if i pull into an Automotive store... then i get questioned... ex: what are you doing here... what else do u need on ur car... I like to give them the finger... cuz frankly they can't do **** about it, unless they tell me to stop, and i do it again. I guess i'm kindin stealin the thread or getting off topic but, to stray back there, sorry about ur luck man.

for future references: if a cop asks you to pop you hood...you cannot call improper search due to improbable cause, this is becaue your VIN numbers are also located under the hood...and they have the right to look under your hood to make sure everything matches up

Hmm, just disconnect your hood release or get locking hood pins and conveniently forget the key.

In WI you can have fully abstructed rear views... you have to have mirrors. For example, if you tow a boat, or you have a work van with out windows in the rear. That's legal

It's a cop being a *****. PM me the name of the cop, a friend of mine is a very good friend of the cops in NB

everything we're telling dryad is the same stuff we told the other guy who got a ticket for the CF wing and it did not help that guy. i recall he was in wisconsin too. maybe it's just a wisconsin thing. are the police departments that hard up for cash in that state that they gotta go around ticketing people for wings?

this is true...

a couple things to take with you to court

1) a brochure from mitsu with pics of the stock Evo
2) if you can get a letter from a mitsu dealer stateing the wing is stock
3) Posibly a lawyer who can verbaly walk all over the judge because due to legal jargon unless you know it you get screwed by it.

also if you lose in court sue mitsu for equiping your vehicle with "illegal" equipment you wont get anything from them however it will get them involved and they have a lot bigger guns than you do to overturn a judges poor decision. Think about it would they really want to recall all Evo wings???
