Just for the record, there is a seal that seals the temperature flap to the case and because of debris getting into the case through the outside air duct it causes the flap to bind and that is what causes the knob to be hard to turn. The fix is to replace the cam linkage for the temp flap and install new screws to attach the new linkage. Also they check the temp cable for and bends and replace that to if needed. If the car doesn't have a cabin air filter they also install one of those to cut down the amount of debris that gets into the case.

I would be happy to answer any questions.

Man mine has been doing this forever and its one of my cars only flaws. So will Mitsu fix this on the EVO's and give out the cabin airfilter? Also how long does this fix usually take hour or so? Just checking but what are the odds if any that they will fix my car with an exhaust / cams/ well the whole works? I know my exhaust has probably thrown the alignment of that little knob off but I'm just checking

Thanks for your help lancerdealer...

thestaton, if you are still under your base warranty they would relace /repair whatever needed to be. Some dealers are funny about covering things under warranty when the car has been modded but our stand is that as long as the mods haven't caused the failure then we would fix it. Now if your car is out of base warranty and you have gone to them for regular services and you have a good relationship with them they will be more likely to help you than if you haven't supported them after the sale. I believe the EVO's come with a cabin filter so they wouldn't change it. It takes about an hour to 1.5 hours to do.

if your knob is out of alignment, lets say to the left, then you need to do many laps counter-clockwise to straighten it up. If it's off to the right then clockwise laps would be in order. Kinda weak, I know. I'll stop.

Good luck

I got this problem as well on my 03 Evo. The warranty should cover this.

There is a TSB on this. I got it fixed by a dealer. It is much better but can't notice a huge improvement.

yep, mine too
Dealer supposedly fixed it last time I had the oil changed. Within dyas, it was back to being it's normal self.
I've found it often goes fairly easy if you hit the stuck spot, turn it back a bit, then turn through the middle spot

If done properly it should be smooth as silk, you shouldn't be able to feel the "stop" that was there before.

Mine does the same thing too but I can get it to switch back and forth so I think I'll wait on taking it in for a while.

I guess no one like the mechanical cable feel, climate control. I am still asking for the auto climate controls unit everyone gets around teh world and still give us the cheaper units even on the $36K MR
