Limited Supply Nonsence

I'm seeing lots of threads from people being told by dealers that there's going to be a limited supply of Evo's to go around. This 2 or 3 per dealer nonsence.

Mitsubishi are a business and will need to sell lots of these cars to recoup the cost of bringing it here. Trust me, they'll bring more than enough for everyone.

These dealers telling you this are sick of people coming in to ask them about a car which won't be out for months, and are telling you this to see if you serious (can afford the car in the first place), or just bothering them about a car that you probably can't afford.

If you have the cash, believe this rubbish and are willing to pay over the odds, then you're not well in the head really.

There'll be load of them knocking about, wait your turn, and tell the dealer to call you when he needs your money. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Yep, there will be tons of them and they will be as common of a sighting as Honda Civics.

I don't think so.

There won't be a ton of them...yet... but there is a very good chance that there will be more than what is expected...the year the WRX debuted, there was only supposed to be 10,000...the year end count imported to the US came to ~18,000.

There will be a set number of Evo's coming. This number has already been set. The 2-3 per dealership is wrong, but right in ways. Most will get 6-10, but there will be some smaller dealerships that might pass on them all together and get none.

Did you not read the article over at CanadianDriver: Click Me?

6000 units for just the US is probably already stretching it. Ralliart is not a mass production house. The quantity of Evo VII's produced by Ralliart was not much over 10,000 units for the whole world. For the Evo VII GT-A, I believe their goal was 2000 cars a month (correct me if I'm mistaken about this), a definite increase over the regular Evo VII but still not that much compared to other cars sold by Mitsubishi and others. Now if Ralliart won't be producing the US Evos and instead MMC makes the Evo a normal production model (i.e. the Cedia Evolution), then we have MUCH greater things to worry about than the quantity of Evos coming to the US.

I heard a rumor about a story being passed around by an alleged focus group in a non-specific location which was reported to have said that there would be 10,000 Evos per month in the United States.

Mitsubishi will build as many Evos as they think they can sell in the United States, and not one less. The first shipment will test the waters, but do you guys think they will actually try and create a short market? (the only people who seem to be able to do that successfully is Honda with their Type-R line, and that is because of extreme brand loyality) haha, I don't think so.

Remember this is the largest car market in the world, and Mitsubishi is a small player, and Ralliart divisoin is new, so they really don't know what to expect. They know that the number of Evos they used to build now has to grow - they probably just don't know by how much.

With the exception of Austin Martin, Ferrari and a couple of others, no car company makes a set limited number of cars, it just doesn't make good business sence. I am sure the first year Mitsubishi will make only a relitively small number of Evos, and that is probably smart, but that number will go up or down, depending on how the car is recieved.

Ford (SVT line), Chev (Z06), Subaru (WRX), Nissan (350Z) all produce a "limited number" of automobiles, that limited number is exactly how many they think they can sell. The reason the Boxster was so scarce was because they were selling them faster then they could produce them - and they even opened a 2nd plant in Finland. This is the only reason "mass production" cars become scarce.

Granted, I am sure my perception is tainted living in Minneapolis, where you can go to the lot and pick up new SVT Cobras, Boxsters, Z06, S2000, WRX etc etc etc. The only thing you can't get off the lot right now is the new Z.

Oh, and there is no way Mitsubishi is going to build/sell 10,000 Evos in the US per month. They couldn't sell 1/4 of that figure. Look at the sales of the WRX and divide that figure by 2 (there is some market saturation and the WRX is about 4-5K cheaper). Subaru sold roughly 25000 WRX in the US in the past 18 months - so if Mitsubishi ships 6000 in the first year - that might be enough...

trigeek has a point.
Lets remember that this is a 30k car. Add to the fact that this is a and the most expensive sedan in their line-up no less.
Not that many people will pay 30k for a , they don't have the reputation. Even with enthusiasts and the amazing performance numbers, I don't think the 6000 cars will sell out that fast.

oh, and the when the STi comes, that will further flood the market, and take away some of the scarcity - as will the Golf 337, Neon SRT-4 - two new cars, and 1 model that the Evo will have to compete with.

GTI 337 was a one time deal only 1500 came to the US and there will not be anymore.

But Golf R32 may come to our shore (~2000) and that may further flood the market.

Arrow GTI 337

heh, my friend got a 337,nice car.... got some cool euro tails on it too. anyway, to my point..... they are going to release another anniversary edition car which will pretty much be exactly like the GTI 337 except in blue, yellow, or red, instead of silver like all the 337s were. This of course, will also be a one time deal, but still a factor along with that new Golf R32....
