Unhappy evo 8

guys, im pretty new to this forum. its good to see that people in america know and appreciate the evolution for the amazing piece of rallying technology that it is. Anyway Im an engineering student in Canada but my mom and family are from Trinidad.( Caribbean). I just came back a while ago and my brother has a white evo 7. after driving it, i must say that if mitsu plans to leave out the acd/ayc, im really dissapointed. These features contribute alot to the dynamics, handling, and overall uniqueness of the evolution. Irs amazing driving the evolution around corners i can tell u that. You give the throttle all u want around corners and the evo takes u through. In addition, from what ive heard about the hp reduction, lowered throttle response is something i dont like. My brother was already dissapointed with the lowered throttle response from the 6.5 tme which he owned previously. Im more pissed that i cant get an evo, fully loaded or half assed in canada. do you guys know if ill be able to get a full jspec evo 8 or 9 when it comes out, into canada. If u do, any help would be aprreciated....

I must say after driving the evo tme, and the evo 7 i cant settle for a us spec, ill have to get the jspec.....after all i might as get a supra or Sti

finally come more people for the Caribbean. I'm from Jamaica, good to have you on the forum hotstepper. I agree with you though, if start leaving out parts then all we're going to have are glorified Lancers, not that I'm complaining, it just wouldn't be the same car.

seriously man, wuz the point of gettin a " evo" if , not only does it have no ayc, or acd, ( there goes handling and uniqueness) but less hp. Dred, thatll suck driving that. I tell you the first time my bro drove the 7 he told us the 6 was faster and i agree. Man,i not goin settle for that when japan and rest of the world have top class rally material......the only thing is,,,,there wont be anything else so fast with great handling to get..im thinkin sti but i heard it slow

The styling and the fact that it is an EVO makes it an EVO. The chassis, the engine, and all the other stuff. AYC/ACD are just added things that are a luxury.

I tell you the first time my bro drove the 7 he told us the 6 was faster and i agree.
Sure the EVO VI was FASTER, but when it comes to turning and handling, the EVO VII and VIII have a much more rigid chassis, so in the end, they both are about equal when it comes to track times.

I'm driving a 99 SE Sentra Limited which came stock with the SER twin cam motor SR20DE. I have motor mounts, crower cams, titanium springs and retainers, and short ram intake. Stock exhaust! This puts me at around 170-180 hp. Plenty of room for increasing hp. But good enough to burn an Si Civic, and the new SER recently.
I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not when I get my Evo, so I've been holding back on making it a beast. But I'm itching for more power since my last ride (300 ZX twin turbo) was over 400 hp. Maybe I'll do the header and exhaust.

Trini .

I know the turbo kit kicks ***!!!
I drove one with drag radials and it spins the tires in second gear!
Sweet exceleration, but massive torque steer!
I was about to do a turbo, but when I heard the Evo was coming, I figured the extra 7-8 grand I might sink into the SER (suspension, brake upgrade, turbo, exhaust, etc.) would better serve as a deposit on the Evo that already has it all!

But its hard to hold back when I know what the SR20 is capable of.
Plus its a very pretty 1999 with only 30k, stick, deep crystal blue (like the skylines!), with 17 " gold Volk / Ray Gram lite with Kumho Ecstas.
When I wash it on weekends, I have to sit and look at it for a few minutes, and just bask in the after glow!

But I can just imagine doing that with my Evo!!!!!
I would probably sleep outside - for the first couple of weeks at least!!!!!

You know it Hotstepper.

I was at the Miami auto show tonight.

The G35 coupe stole the show in my opinion.

Subaru reps said info release on the launch of the STi will be out in January.

Mitsubishi reps said that Evo 8 will be here in February, with 270 hp, and no AYC. Could not comment about ACD for some reason.
