Just bought an RS...

Which stands for Real Sleeper or Real Stripper! This long time lurker finally pulled the trigger on a Rally Red 04 RS! Pickin' her up after work tomorrow. The dealer is practically breaking even on this car in order to meet some aggressive Mitsubishi end of the year sales goals: I'm paying exactly $25,000 minus the $500 owner loyalty rebate, bringing the total to $24,500! Since I'm buying out of state, I'll be paying the sales tax in my home state.

It was a tough decision, but I decided to go with red instead of white (they have one of each). While I like the RS better in white than red, I thought the red had the greater potential for sleeper status. The main reason being that the hood vent and FMIC stick out more on the white Evo because of the color contrast. I may actually wind up painting the hood vent red anyway for total stealth. The FMIC is definitely getting anodized, but first I need to locate a spare. Does anyone know of any places other than Swain Tech that have a good reputation for anodizing intercoolers? Swain Tech wants $250 and that seems a bit high to me.

Other mods that I'm planning include a different set of lightweight alloys (the stock Enkeis are just too well known), Evo VII taillights, Lancer ES badges, and a Lancer ES "straw" sized muffler if I can find a way to easily adapt it. I will then run an electronic cutout up by the downpipe! **** will be pretty funny when peeps sleep on me thinking I'm in a base model FWD Lancer! Haha, I can't wait. Anyone who knows the Evo will probably know what I have though, since the wide rims, fat tires, and Brembos are sorta hard to hide. Oh well, it will still be way better than a stock Evo 8 with the big wing.

Will post pics of my new baby on Thursday.

Later,

RS=RealStripper

i hope this was just thinking out loud. it might make people look twice at your car, but after te second look, most will realize it's an evo and then laugh at you.

No, it's not thinking out loud. As I'm blowing the doors off that C5 Vette piloted by Mr. Mid-Life Crisis, I want to see the look on his face and laugh out loud.

Let people think what they want to think but I like to keep my cars as inconspicious as possible. It'll probably result in far less traffic tickets too.

Didnt someone test temp differences on an intercooler that was stock and one that was spray painted black and they were the same. if thats true then just spray paint it, it will save you 250.

Edit https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...nt+intercooler
Heres the link to one post about it.

Should paint your brembos silver, so they look like non-brembos...

I'm not so much worried about the efficiency or heat dissipation as I am the paint coming off, flaking, etc. after a few weeks. The anodization is a permanent solution that I wouldn't have to worry about.

Thanks for the link.

If someone thinks that your fendered-flared, es badged, de-winged Evo is really a plain old Lancer, then they're probably going to be driving a mini van and not a Vette.

If you want to beat Mr. Mid-Life crisis so bad, why don't you do it in a car that doesn't scream "I'm young, but just as fast as you" BTW, I'm guilty as charged on that last point, but I could care less about Mr. Mid-Life crisis...

You honestly think that yuppy Mr. Mid-Life crisis in his pride and joy C5 Corvette will really know it's an Evo? I highly doubt that! Not to stereotype, but that "type" usually doesn't know much about cars!

The body kit on the RS is pretty subtle if you ask me.

P.S. The RS doesn't come with a wing, thus there is no need for a "de-winging" (damn, that sounds pretty lethal!)

unless your planning on doing a few mods for top end don't expect to pull on a new corvette when starting at freeway speeds... Z06 will still own a stock Evo.

I plan on getting this "wolf in sheep's clothing" into the mid 11's real soon. Besides, most Z06s don't hook for **** on the street anyway. Not without slicks, that is.

when starting at 60mph its not hard to hook up at all a stock Z06 will run low-mid 12's and you said before about putting a "straw" exhaust on your evo that type of mod will not pull you into the 11 second catagory... to hit 11's takes some pretty significant mods to the Evo 12's is pretty easy to hit with simple things shoot just exhaust and chip can get you into 12's but 11's takes some work.

Also top end of a Z06 will be hard to beat if you have your car set up for low end quarter mile.. you planning on dropping another 10 grand under the hood? you seemed a bit more frugle going out of state to get a good deal on a stripped down Evo.. but whatever you decide to do post pics of your dyno slips and track times
