Bought the RS and the new Autoweek article... NOT happy!

After taking it easy for the first 200 miles, I decided to get on it in 3rd and 4th gear a bit. The car felt like a total pig and it was hesitating past 6,000 rpms. How can this happen on a new car? At first I thought maybe the dealership put 87 octane in it, but even after filling up with 94, the car is still really really slow and hesitates in the high RPMs.

Then today the new Autoweek comes featuring a comparison test between the RS and the VW R32. To my astonishment, the RS only ran a 14.50 @ 91.6! 91.6 traps!? WTF? The underpowered and porky naturally aspirated R32 trapped two MPH higher! So I think there's some kind of problem with the Evo RS not making the same power as the Evo 8. I mean a 91.6mph trap speed under any conditions for an Evo is not normal. I don't care what the elevation or temperature is. Any ideas?

any fool can go fast in a straight line.

I didn't buy the EVO for it's straight line ability. Through your RS into a corner and I garrentee you will out perform the R32

Sounds like you got some bad gas! I never fill up at cheap gas stations. Also your car will need to be broken in more.

How many miles do you have?

Also take your car back to dealership have them check it for a boost leak.

GeT a boost gauge so you know what is giong on.

Good Luck,
Snoop

The manual states that you should observe a break in of at _least_ 600 miles before taking the engine above 5000 rpm. Most people here agree that it should really be 1000 miles. It's the brakes that need 200 miles to set.

Who knows. Maybe the autoweek people were short shifting or something.

you definatly need to let the car brake in a little more. I just hit the 2000 mile mark in my evo 8 and it's just now starting to drive a little better. the clutch is starting to actually get better. could also be me getting use to the car. trust me. a person would have to be just a horrible driver to run a 14.5 in an evo. there definatly not launching the car at all. I would expect to see at least a 13.4-5 out of a decent driver in an Evo 8 RS. So just take it easy for a couple hundred more mile and if the hesitations still happen. take it to the stealership and have them check it out and fix it. trust me. the evo is not a pig of a car.

It has like 250 miles on it. Considering the dealership is in Virginia and I live in New York, I don't think I'll be taking it back to them for service any time soon.

Even if they had a completely sh!tty launch, it should still trap higher than 91. Trust me, there's something wrong with my RS and maybe theirs had the same problem. Sucks. Same thing happened to my 03 Cobra. Bought that thing brand new and dynoed it immediately... Thing only put down like 310whp when everyone else on the forums was putting down 370-380. LOL. That only turned out being a software/tuning issue. Let's hope that's the same with this RS...

at the end of this tank, refill your car up with the gas you normally use. reset your ecu and drive it normally for about 15 minutes.

another thing, don't expect the Evo to be a top end monster, because it isn't. of course, you could always buy some new cams and a new turbo... then you'll have top end.

Easy man. It is not a good idea to go over than 4000rpm at the first 1000 miles. Check the kind of engine oil is inside and the gas quality.

If I remember right, the RS is a few tenths faster on the 1/4 mile compared the regular Evo. The better front diff gives the RS a faster launch.

Autoweek must have tested a broken RS or didn't drive it worth a damn.

Take your RS to the track. I'm sure you'll hit an easy 13 second run.
