I used myself as an example of someone who isn't totally into hardcore racing but still enjoys the performance of an Evo. Not to say the Evo wasn't meant for the track but you can still use it for other purposes. Its not as comfortable as an STi or S4 or other cars but I can tell you this see if any of those cars can hang with the Evo in the corners. Even with the new upgrades of the 05 STi its skidpad results are still lower than the normal evo and much lower than the new MR.

Subaru does have a similar history however the STi that the US gets is not like the rally cars that are tearing up the dirt tracks... It has many of the luxury items people like you are asking for (climate cruise 6cd changer softer ride etc)

Someone else mentioed the stiff ride of the STi... have you riden in an Evo lately? The Sti suspension is still very respectable but no where near as stiff as the Evo. This is good and bad depending on what you want the car for. I'm not trying to dog on the STi because for some people its the best buy.
Everyone has different purposes and reasons for selecting a new car and if cruise is a major factor for you then by all means get a car with cruise. If its that big of a deal to you don't get something that doesn't have it then whine about it for the next 3 years.

Cool

I wonder if a dealer would install cruise control in a slightly used Evo or if BADEVO just had a really good experience and got lucky. If you have a new Evo with factory installed cruise hang onto that car man! Older cars with unusual factory options (like 50's Corvette convertibles with air conditioning, etc.) fetch huge numbers at auction, and dont kid yourself, in 30 years Evos are going to be collector cars that people pay big money for.
And I like cruise control - keeps me licensed.

I just read in the new Motor Trend that the ES and Ralliart now have the option of cruise control, so it is kinda dumb that the EVO doesn't have it. This will not be my deciding factor. I will be purchasing either an STI or GSR no matter what. Price may be more of a selling point then anything, If I can buy a 05 GSR for 27.900 in a few months or an 05 STI for the same or within 500 bucks(I know that would be a great deal on the STI). I will probably go with the STI. I love the EVO, but I also really like the STI and i feel with prices close the STI is a better deal. I need to drive both cars, I have only driven an 04 EVO GSR. I live in FLA and the dealer here(MASTRO SUBARU) is a great dealer, they almost never void warranties and do allot of mods there. The owner Pete has a bad *** STI(Modded) and that is the car u drive to test drive. I will be heading down to Clearwater to drive it soon, will let u know what i think.

Pros of the EVO.
Better Handling and looking
I like the 4G-63, its been around awhile and seems to be reliable.
The Great Warranty and Free Service.

Pros of the STI.
I started a list but it started to get to long. I may have just typed myself into an STI.

I'll tell ya, this really has become the Mustang vs Camaro war from the 90's again. This is gonna be a tough decision. I guess until I drive a STI, I will hold back any more judgment. The big thing about the STI that scares me is the Reliability of that 2.5.

Why do you think you can get an 05 GSR for $27,900? The MSRP on the 04 Evo is $29,9xx. I would bet that the new GSR with front LSD and ACD will fetch more than the current 04 models.

Yeah, I'm a little low on both prices I think, but I won't buy till I get a good deal. I just read a guy on wrx forum got an 05 for 29,000 with Short Shift, Dimming mirror and Armrest, Which for a brand new 05 is a pretty good deal I think.
