downshift frm 5th to 3rd

that's exactly it. i haven't really tried from 5th to 3rd, but i do it on every 1gear lower

downshift. do it everyday and u should get used to it very quickly. it gets very

smooth enough that friend next to you wont even noticed u downshifted~

I've started to practice. It's a lot harder than it sounds. just have to keep trying. So, do you tap the throttle as you are releasing the clutch or is it more delayed?

the idea is to allow the engine to be in the desired rpm range before it engages the lower gear. therefore, it is not "more delayed". As you step on the clutch, the car is in neutral (easiest gear to rev); do not delay, because the rpm will drop as soon as it is in neutral. Instead, rev it up with the gas pedal to the correct rpm for the intended gear. shift into that gear while you are still on the clutch. When that process is done, release your left foot from the clutch, hit the gas, and voila =) pratice this on a straight road for acceleration until the motion is not jerky... and as you get smoother, try to downshift before approaching turns.. good luck
