downshifting with the Evo

I do it to all my other cars but I want to know how well the stock Evo clutch will hold up. Im not talking about 5th to 3rd just normal down shifting which only raises the rpm a bit.

downshifting won't harm the clutch, but if you do it wrong, it will hurt the tranny. just rev-match properly and you'll be ok.

5th gear, clutch in, neutral, raise revs, clutch out.

Clutch in, 4th, clutch out. Congrats. "Double clutching". It works.

I said the same thing with one exception, I raise the revs before I bring the clutch out to rev match. Loser

BTW, using inertia is better than building revs all over again. You're still a loser. :-)

thats not double clutching then...you arent raising the speed of the transmission at all until the clutch is engaged... its ALMOST the same as moving to the gear with the clutch in, and then revving and clutching out. whats the point?

spinning up the flywheel and then dropping the clutch (in neutral), will spin up the trans, but not smoothly.....i dont understand why you'd rev before you clutched out...

oh, and props on the namecalling, you seem extra smart now.

Oh, I see. I was busting on you, as I thought you were to me.

Anyways, we're basically saying the same thing. You let the clutch out (NOT engaged in gear) and raise the revs. Im running a lighter flywheel with a two disk Cusco, so there is a drastic variance in rotation mass attached to the motor, so it will rev more freely if I dont let the pedal loose. Either way, we accomplish the same thing. Its how I think of it in my head..thats all. Sorry for the confusion, man. Good to see someone has a sense of humor around here.

Well we have synchros so all of this double clutching is pretty much moot anyways. From 5th, I go clutch in, blip throttle as I'm shifting to 3rd, clutch out and WHAM. Gone.

And how many times has your tranny been rebuilt? Im on three now, and I can say I drive better than anybody I know personally. Better safe that sorry. I wore out the 3-4, 4-5 syncros twice by just saying "Hey, it has syncros!!"

Im into that tranny for a ton of green, soon to be more. The second build was done very well so now its quite a bit better. The first build was a stocker with no revised parts and I persisted to treat it like $hit. It rewarded me with twice the problems, so a word to the wise. A quick muscle flex and a twitch of the wrist extra is worth IMHO.

As for the beer, where you at, man? Im in NJ, Im buyin.

I'm at 24k miles and I'm bone stock. Tranny is just fine, hasn't been rebuilt and the only time my car has seen a service bay was for the P0300 code that flashed up once. I'm not saying beat the hell out of it, and I baby my car 80% of the time and drive it pretty granny-ish cuz I'm poor and #1 can't afford mods and #2 can't afford to rebuild the tranny much less anything else.
