downshifting with the Evo

Really, I baby the tranny and the only gear I really snap hard is the 1-2 shift. Its not a drag car, so I dont drive it like one. Feeling the syncros engage is necessary, especially with the problems associated with the 2 disk clutch I can't seem to remedy. Any opinions on that?
One thing I will say about downshiftnig when not double clutching....the shifter should just kinda "fall" into place. Its like pushing a bowling ball over a tiny hill. Once the synchros start to engage, it just kinda floats in. If you have to force it all the way, somethings wrong....and take note of those situations...becasue you might want to try D clutching when that situation arises again.
My downshifts are almost NEVER notchy....very smooth and easy... although i feel the notches of synchros engaging on the upshifts frequently.
Just tried it on the way home from work. Man...I suck at it. I kept having to think about it too much. The part I had the hardest time with was getting the revs to the right spot and letting the clutch back out after the shift into gear. The revs were tough because I'm used to just clutch, blip, shift, clutch-out, so it took longer hence the revs were always a bit low. This made the downshift pretty jerky. I got it right a couple of times.
That leads to my second part, letting the clutch out after the shift. It's just a quick slip back out right? That in combo with the revs made it kind of embarrasing a couple times. But the 1 or 2 times where it kinda worked it was pretty cool It was a 4-3 downshift and it just went right into 3rd, almost on it's own. I'll keep practicing...

if you let the revs drop, you can come with a little gas when you clutch out, or do a really quick shift...in the lower rev range you may be only looking to bump 1000 rpm, so blipping the throttle up 1500 or so should give you enough time to get your mechanics down.

When you have 2 discs, youre tranny input shaft is gonna have more momentum for the synchros to deal with. Im not sure what the factor is here, but given the clutch disc acts as a mini-flywheel, its not insignificant. Personally i dont have much experience with them, so its hard for me to comment further.

Spirited driving is when you want the fastest downshifts, which you get from not double-clutching. Seems you've got it backwards?
Vroompsh, vin Diesel implied you should be double clutching an d side stepping a clutch while drag racing. Implying all that BS makes us in this arena look like fools. Tractor trailes have trannies sans syncros, so they NEED to. Preventative maintanence is what I regard it is, just because I dont wanna hurt this transmission AGAIN. Too much bad experience whilst beating on it.
