Install a pass-through for the rear seats on Evo VIII?

Hello. I'm a soon-to-be new Evo 8 owner and new to the forum. I looked at an Evo RS yesterday and noticed that if you fold down the rear center armrest/cupholder, you see a thin foam material on the back of the seat, which you could easily poke through and turn into a pass-through.

Has anyone tried to make their own pass-through on their Evo 8? This would be similar to the ski pass-through that I had on my E46 M3.

Thanks.

Sam

rear seat pass-through

Like this? Very easy to do, just take time to do as good a job as you can.

Hmm, maybe my memory is foggy but isn't there some sort of steel crossbracing in that area? Maybe they come down on either side of the pass thru area.

No offense but maybe you should have taken a little more time with the cutting, it's all wavy! Plus that steel bracing does put a damper on the whole pass through idea?

Is it functional, I guess Evo's and Lancer both have it.

Wouldn't have been wavy if I'd done it myself - was there when I bought the car; since imperfections can't be seen from interior, and no-one rides in the trunk, who cares!! It'll get redone whenever I get around to it - have other/more important things to do first.

Steel bar running across seat hasn't interferred with usabilty, nor have the Evo's body stiffeners (they do not cross the armrest area.) The top of the subwoofer enclosure just happens to be at the same height as the armrest when it's folded down.

Works for me, and as I'm the only owner/driver of the car, I'm the only one whose opinion matters.

Bottom line: I didn't get car to haul 2x4s, etc., but having a FUNCTIONAL pass-through has come in handy more than once (and sound transmittal from trunk is so much better!)

Pass-through on Evo

Thanks! Everyone I've talked to in my area hasn't made a pass-through so it's nice to see that someone's done it. Maybe I'll make one too.

Pass-through on Evo

If you decide to make a pass-through, PM me. I can send you more photos showing more detail of all the areas involved, along with my $.02 worth of tips so you can do a better job than way mine was done.
